  • Vinyl help and recommendations please?

    Hi All

This may sound a naive question but for vehicle graphics, what is your go to vinyl?
I don’t mean for vehicle wrapping, I mean vehicle graphics in general. I want something that I know will work and not come away after a few months. I have tried several over the years but have drifted a bit and would like to pin down one and stick to it. pardon the pun!

now that I have said that any advice on a good all round wrap vinyl would be great too. not that I personally do it, i just sub it out to an installer. but would be good to know as I make the graphics up for them of course.

Oracal 551 here for general vehicles, been using it for many years.
Just a good quality vinyl that weeds beautifully.

Get it from Europoint or Amari if your down South east.

Avery 700 or Image perfect 5700 for my everyday stuff. Only ever had 1 problem in 10 years.

I’m with Martin, I’ve used Oracal vinyls for 15+ years. Initially I used 651 as standard and 751 for ‘special’, but I find 551 is more than adequate for 99% of signage work, very minimal shrinkage over 4-5years, great colour range, nice metallics, nice to weed (mostly) and use…

I’ve tried various other films but always go back to 551 as the ‘go to’.

Metamark M7 or ImagePerfect 5700 ranges, use both for most things.

    3M 180 colours.
This is an air release and so easy to use. and ten year life…at least.

      Hi Simon,

Is this branded differently in New Zealand – or do you have the wrong code?

    Recently starting Oracal 551

    Vehicle wrapping
Arlon SLX (since was released on the marked)

Oracal 751 for pretty much any plotter work for me, used to use mactac 9800 since the dinosaurs, brilliant material but a bit more expensive than the Oracal nowadays

Why are you avoiding the MD5 air release?

Hi Hugh. I’ve had 3 failures in the 12 months approximate use of MD5 air release.

The explanation from Metamark was not very concrete and satisfactory. It was all maybe this, maybe that. I’m not going to miss it much.

All failures where on vehicles glass panels. (Side and back)

Big fan of 3M 50 series for general vinyl. Very high grab and cuts and weeds well.

Print mostly MD3 due to the market we are in.

My go too would be imageperfect 5700, hexis supatac or avery 700, none of these have ever failed on me and all nice soft material for weeding and applying

    Thank you John.

I have been reading these forums a fair bit since lock down and notice some posts complaining about Metamark. But in other posts, many are using it. am I missing something, like is it just one type of metamark I should avoid?

I am leaning towards Oracal because I do not see any posts anywhere complaining about it. decisions! Rolling Eyes
