Van price check please
Posted by Warren Beard on April 19, 2012 at 3:50 pmAny rough ideas what you would charge for this, customer just told me I’m more than double his current supplier so just want to see who’s losing the plot here, me or him? 😮

is it cut vinyl or wrap?
if wrap is it only sections we see with colour
or
the whole van wrapped.what type of wrap media are you intending using?

Hi Rob
Not wrap vinyl, was going to use MD5 and fold in to recesses as it will be contour cut around the outer edge of design so will avoid any stretching in to recesses.
other text and logos will be cut vinyl.
cheers

you could be looking at trouble arising then mate. the number plate section and the other recessed areas. more so numberplate area will pop back.
md5 is a good digital and i know its been used on convex panels and held well but i doubt it will perform on a concave.when it comes to wrapping. do not let the customer dictate what you should sell him it for. use the media fit for purpose, apply it well and get what you should get from a job like this.
ask the customer the questions when they give you a reply to a quote.
what media is your supplier offering?
is it laminated?
what guarantees do they offer on failures?
the list goes on… bet they dont know the answers though!i know you personally will have heard all this before. but better to loose out on a job than to take on an on-going headache.

based on "that media" i would be looking for £50 per square metre laminated.
i would then charge for the installation. -
warren I think you would need to charge upward of £400 probably nearer £500 plus the vat as a guestimate, am I close?

Thanks guys, about right then I think.
Rob: agree with what you said, that was just the alternative I was looking at to try get it down if customer was happy with compromise.
Thanks guys.

nothing wrong in them coming to a compromise mate, fully understand that we need to do what we need to do to get the sales. what i would suggest though is be open and honest. make relief cuts everywhere there is a recess.
so fiot it as a flat panel, apply until all is taught tight. then using a new scalpel, run the blade around each recess and allow the vinyl to drop in and apply. straight on it looks perfectly acceptable. up close you see a small gap. but if they want to pay for the look with a cheaper media, its them that need to compromise given your advice.remember, cheap film or wrap film. your STILL wrapping and thats the cost killer, your labour!

Cheers rob, I basically gave them a price and explained the option if done at that price due to vinyls used, I’ll wait and see what they say
