Using Hyperlinks in a PDF
Posted by Harry Cleary on December 6, 2013 at 9:42 amWonder could one of the experts save me some time here.
I need to create an online version of a magazine (downloadable PDF) I designed, with clickable links in the text.
Can I do that entirely within Corel X3 or am I looking at using a full version of Acrobat or some other software?
On a 1-10 scale, how difficult is it?Cheers.

Harry, I don’t use X3 – I’m still on 12, but try this…
If you type up the text. Then using the text tool, select the word(s) you want to become the link, and right-click over it – select Properties from the pop-up menu. You should get the properties tool panel. One of the tabs on the panel is for Web (has an icon of a web in my version). I think you should be able to type in the URL there. Remember to begin it with the protocol (http:// etc.).

Try "Dockers" – "Links and bookmarks"
In a nutshell; click an object to select it – now click the button in the docker window for "new link" type in the address and thats it. Works on images and shapes as well as text.
Keep your eyes open when you publish to pdf though as not all versions of pdf allow hyperlinks, you need to ensure this is ticked otherwise they dont get sent out of corel.

Dunno if it’s just me Andy, but all I can see in dockers (X3) is ‘link manager’ and I can’t see a way of getting it activated, the docker is blank when open and no matter what I highlight or click it remains blank with no options. If that makes sense.

Seems that suggestion I posted last week not work Harry. I’m on v12 here so guessing a bit!
I was too busy at the time to give it a go myself, so just tried now. Seems that the entire object (text sentence/para etc) or graphic object acts as the link. So it seems you can’t select an individual word within a sentence. I guess you could work around that by creating a separate object for that word. Or even overlaying the word with a rectangle (borderless) as a hotspot.
It works for me if I select the object/word/sentence using the Pick tool, then right-click for Properties if it isn’t already docked. Then type in the URL.
