  • Trouble with spot foils not printing

    Posted by Randall on April 17, 2017 at 4:44 pm

    I’m using signlab 9.1 and printing on a summa dc4 . I have been printing with cmyk with no problems. I am now trying to print with spot foils , cymk black only and s_tomato red. In the modules I have print spot as spots installed, also in vpm the icc profile spot color matching is off. When I print it prints in cymk not just the two spot foils.
    In the design when I click on the colors they show for the black
    cmyk ,
    c=0
    m=0
    y=0
    k=100,
    gretag eye-one,
    Tint 100%
    color type spot foil
    Reflectivity plain,
    Color name K Black only

    For the Red
    RGB
    R=238
    G=50
    B=36
    Gretag Eye-One
    Tint 100%
    Color type Spot Foil
    Reflectivity Plain
    Color name S_Red
    Vender Summa

    Not sure what to try next .
    Thanks Randy

    To use the foils as Spots, you need to load the Summa.pal Palette into Signlab and use the colours from that. The colours should show as S_Orange, S_Tomato_red, etc.

    Thanks for the reply , sorry it took so long to get back .
    I reloaded the Summa.pal and tried printing again. The Black prints as a spot, the K is set to 100 and the cym are set to 0. The Tomato Red however still prints in RGB , When you open the edit color it still says R=238,G=50, B+36, I’m assuming it should just have Tomato Red and the tent % , Any Ideas would be appreciated
    Thanks Randy

    I still can’t print using spot foils, after searching found this from cadlink’s sight.
    was wondering if anyone knew a way to get around this.
    Thanks

    Spot Foil Colors (SF) are no longer available in SignLab palettes

    Spot Foil colors were originally used in SignLab to print to thermal printers such as the Gerber Edge, Summa DC3/DC4 and Roland PC-60/600. Those Spot Foil color plates contained an ID which was used to identify the spot foil the printer will use.

    CADlink has discontinued thermal printing support and now there is no use of Spot Foils colors.

    As a result of this, all SF colors in the palette will appear as SC (Spot Colors). Any SF color contained in an old CDL file will be converted to SC when imported or open.

    They will have the same functionality as before for non thermal printers

    Try and create a new Palette based on these RGB Spot Colour Values and save the colour with the correct name/ format for your Summa requirements

    Red = 255-0-0
    Green = 0-255-0
    Blue = 0-0-255
    Cyan = 0-255-255
    Magenta = 255-0-255
    Yellow = 255-255-0
    Orange = 255-128-0
    Black = 0-0-0
    White = 255-255-255
    Gold = 128-128-0
    Silver = 128-128-128
    This is the same palette from my PC-60 and PC-600 and could/ should treat these colours now as a true spot colour.
