hey guys i tripede on the usb cable for my creation pcut ct630 it bent the usb plug and some of the pins shorted inside, i have removed the plug and soldered the usb cable directly to the board, the computer knows something is connected now and the sign blaszer software knows the com2 port is there when its plugged in but it wont talk to the cutter when i want it to cut, im going ot get a new usb pcb plug tomorrow and will solder that back in and try a new cable, is it possible that something on the mobo has gone pop?

    thanks

Was it switched on when you tripped over the cable and caused the connection issue, if yes then yes something may have shorted out on the board, if no (was switched off) then a new cable might solve the problem.
A good electronic tech will solve the problem, could be an internal fuse. Because the computer can see something does not mean the something works or will operate.

Like Graham says if it was turned on at the time then it is possible, if it was turned off then the only damage you could have caused would have been to pull something loose. The fact that you have gone ahead and tried to repair it yourself may also have caused any sort of damage.

All so is why mine has a couple of large loops and taped to the leg, so if caught then the loop undoes first,
