Looking for advice, a bit behind the times in terms of a website 🙂 Can anyone point me in the right direction, technical knowledge is okayish. We do lots of labels and to save time I’d like to direct enquiries to a site that will allow customers to build up their own ‘simple’ label e,g. colour, text, barcode etc. Something interactive. Any advice? Is there something we can purchase off the shelf?

    Thanks

    Jason

Personally I would steer clear of the likes of Wix, 1&1, or any other ‘site builder’, as you’re tied into using them.

Purchase your own hosting, again steer clear from the big boys (goDaddy, 1&1) and find a smaller, independent company. Probably cost marginally more, but you should receive better support, and less crowded server. UK based will give you a speed advantage over servers in the USA & Europe.

Buy a domain name, install wordpress on your host, get a theme and go from there.

Wordpress is a CMS, you build your site online, using their software. It’s free too for the self hosted option. Lots of plugins available too, WooCommerce if you wish to sell online.

If you ever need to change host, you own the data, and can move it easily to another provider.

If you were to move from Wix, you’d have to start from scratch again.

Make sure you register your own domain so it’s your property & have access to your emails so when you fall out with your web guy you still own the name.

Focus on a specific thing like your labels ours is number plates & we sell well over £100k a year.

Get a separate web designer & SEO guy one will push the other to get a super website ranking as it should. A website is like any other shop it needs maintained & promoted.
