    Good evening all.

I plan to fix with double sided tape 20mm acrylic to the stern of my boat and then screw my Garmin transducer. I will take readings on few fishing trips, few different positions on the stern for the transducer, and then when happy with best location, permanently use proper fixing / drilling, sealing into the hull.

The “nastiest” “stickiest” double sided tape that you have ever used?

I will be happy to get the name of the 3M foam tape used on the GoPro Action Camera parts. That is the strongest I have used.

I have this 3M VHB but to be honest, I’m not impressed by it. It this gummy / silicone- ish clear.

    Hi Pane,

Eurobond adhesives EB6110G sticks like the proverbial. Had a complaint from a client that it took off chunks of plaster when it came to removing some acrylic text from the wall. Used with 3M VHB tape primer and a bit of heat and it’s the bee’s knees.

when you say, 20mm acrylic, do you mean thick?

when you use a “tape” you need a tape that is compatible with both surfaces.
the tape might be stuck solid to the acrylic, but fail to adhere to the boat.
Even 3M VHB tapes have limitations, it is genuine high bonding tapes, but different versions of 3M VHB for different surfaces.

the issue you will have if you use something that really does stick, is how do you get it back off when you want to permanently fix the transducer to the boat?

A great all round tape and one I would suggest trying is Oracals Foam Stick tape.
It bonds great to an array of surfaces and when it comes to removal. its thick enough for you to put take some fishing line and pull it through between the acrylic and the boat and it will cut through the tape like cheese-wire. then all you have to do is apply and soak it in tar-n-glue remove and it will eat into the tape so you can clean off the residue.

As long as both surfaces are “high energy”, and clean, I have found the black 3M vhb tape to be just about bulletproof…in all weathers. Never tried the clear stuff.

Thank you all. This worked with the 3M black tape that my neighbour had and borrowed to me. Cheers
