    Hi Darell

This enquiry is currently going round all the big sign companies, these letters I guess are screen printed onto 1mm rigid plastic.

join the lsit quoting by seeing your local screen printer

Can you not just vinyl them onto 1mm stuff? Be fairly cheap to do.

My thoughts exactly. Can’t remember what it’s called, but there’s a rigid pvc (not foam, more dense) that comes in thinner sheets. Robert Horne probably sell it. Anyway, anyone with a plotter could do that job.

We would use huntsman high impact polystyrene (Robert Horne/A&P Display) either in 1000 micron or 1500 micron

That’s the word I was looking for: polystyrene!

Darrell, if the method we are talking about is acceptable, feel free to e-mail the details; I’ll have a look at it for you.

I hope I’m not breaking any rules here Rob. Apologies if so.

    Hi BigG

I am not sure of the material, however doing some research the US web sites are selling the digits as part of a readerboard system?

At the moment I am not sure of the amount of letters needed.

Its for a scoreboard that needs to cater for 192 players with the following categories per player:

Card Size: 25mm Wide x 55mm Height (Approx)
Digit Size: 15mm Wide x 30mm Height (Approx)
    Position: (1-192)
Surname (For 192 Players) (Black on Yellow)
Rnd 1 Score (0-99) (White on Red)
Rnd 2 Score (0-99) (Black on White)
Rnd 3 Score (0-99) (White on Blue)
Rnd 4 Score (0-99) (Black on White)
Total Score (0-999) (Black on White)

Category Headers (for the above categories) x 2
Main Board Headers x 2 (White on Navy)

So I need enough letters and number to cater for all 192 players names and score combinations and the material needs to be used outdoors!

I am trying to get hold of the client to ask how many letters and numbers they need!!.

Do you work on a per digit price or supply in packs?

    Thanks

    Darrell…..

the product i think you are looking for is a spandex material called plastigraphix…but robert horne do a similar pvc in sheet form not sprocketed.

    hope this helps

Rebecca is right to suggest HIPs material.

I do a bit of these. I cut the letters with a border the overall size required. I then use the border as the cut edge. HIPs will cut with a stanley knife no worries.

If I am doing a lot as there are here, I’d get the material cut to size by the supplier.

Pretty easy job really, but you’ll be sick of it by the end 🙄 Low material costs but a high labour content.

I could have sworn Europoint display do that 1mm foamboardy stuff, it is like a rigid plastic, but its cool for doing flexible signs that you need to bend into place.

As has been said, really easy to cut, but its a little unforgiving if you slip with the blade. I had to recut the same piece 3 times, wasted loads of material, and all because I didn’t use a non-slip rule 😳 If there’s an expensive way to learn, I’ll find it 😳

    quote Dewi:

Dewi, you have such a way with words :lol1:

The ‘1mm foamboardy stuff’ we have here is called expanded foam PVC (ePVC) and it is just as Dewi says, but beware, it comes in 2 different styles (here anyway) a UV version and a non UV version. Get the wrong one and it will fail outside really quickly.

It is a good replacement for HIPS as it is easier to cut, but the price is much the same.

    Cheers

plastigraphix also goes through the edge and plotter, so just snap and crack out the shape once printed and cut..

    cheap as chips!
