  • Signlab 9 error message-can’t load certain files

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on November 25, 2011 at 2:23 pm

When loading files created (I think) prior to upgrading to SL9 I get a message which says:

The files associated with your pattern fill cannot be found. Do you want to locate it? YES/NO buttons.

Only it will only allow me to click the ‘YES’ button, which brings up the selection box, and the file name-always all the metal plate colours, ie ‘diamond plate’ silver/red/green etc.
They are BMP files, and I cannot see where to select them, or even why it’s happening. Does exactly the same in my old SL 7.1, which I am still running alongside SL9.

The only way I can get out of SL when this message comes up is to do a ctrl/alt/delete.

It’s becoming extremely frustrating, as I need to work with some files and cannot open them. Anyone who can shed some light on this please????

Otherwise it may have to be a complete re-install, i guess.

    Thanks
    Lorraine

I will try to find out what is happening.

Lorraine, I think this may be because the files were created in an earlier version.
When you open the file it looks for the FILLS directory where it was installed on the earlier program version.
As you have now installed SL9 it won’t find the directory as it is now in a different place.
This is what I would try.
In explorer go to Cadlink/Signlab9 and find the Signlab.ini file.
Make a copy to a different location as backup.
I assume you still have the previous Signlab installed?
If so, go to Cadlink/Signlab8? and note the directory path for the fills.
    Something like Cadlink/Signlab8/Fills

Open Signlab9 and go to Help/About Signlab.
Press ALT and i at the same time to open the .ini file in Notepad.
Scroll nearly to the bottom until you see the line which tells Signlab where to find the FILLS. (See uploaded image for an example).
Change the directory path to point to your Signlab 8 Fills directory.
You can also find the path by going to Cadlink/Signlab8/Signlab.ini (double click to open it). Scroll down to find the entry, then you could copy & paste it in to the Signlab 9 .ini file.
Save this file and close it, then close and re-open Signlab9.
    Try your files.

If you ever move a font, clipart or fills directory etc, only newly saved jobs will find them as the old files will have the old location saved with them.
Always keep an original copy of the Signlab.ini file just in case!
To go back to previous settings just drag and drop the saved copy back in to the Signlab 9 folder.

Hi Frank, have sent you an email.

Peter, it sounds fairly clear and as if that may well be the problem, BUT…..
    I don’t know even how to find Explorer, so I had best not mess about with files, I think. 🙄 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳

    Computer literate my @r$e!

Thank you for taking the time to reply though, it’s appreciated.

    I didnt recieve any email.
I am testing to see if you can attach a cdl file to post so other people can download it.

Rule7 says you cant post email addresses.
But it looks like you can attach a file to your post.
Are you familiar with how to do that?

Reply to this email, and if you scroll down to the bottom of your browser, you will see whaere you can attach a file to your reply.
Just tested it here myself. Cool.

Peter might be right. I just hope the files are not corrupted somehow

I am in the shop tomorrow for an ‘urgent’ job, so will email or post if I have time, or it will have to wait until I am in on Tuesday.

    Thank you.

It sounds to me like your "fills" directory in signlab 7.1 has been accidentally moved or deleted. I would try re-installing sl 7.1 (in it’s original location) which should replace the missing directory and/or files and fix the problem?

Well Phil, you are the man!
Apart from having to reload the fonts etc, I am back up and running again, both in SL 7.1 and SL 9!

Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions, but Phil gets the prize this time! :lol1:
