  • Sequential plotting…

Posted by John Mackenzie John Mackenzie on April 12, 2013 at 11:59 am

Before I went down the full colour path I used to use Omega software and Gerber plotters and there was an option on the plot screen that allowed for sequential plotting, ie the machine would cut the individual elements in a sequential order from left to right and not in the order the job was generated.

I hardly do any cut vinyl anymore but I wondered if there is such a thing in either Illustrator or VersaWorks?

Thanks in advance for any help…

I miss that feature so much, also select by color.
Wish Corel and Cutting Master had that.
Just chiming in nostalgically, I have no good advice.

    Chime away Jill!

I’ll have have a hunt online and see if there is a way of ‘tricking’ Illustrator into it…

This may not help you Jill if you are not using Illustrator but I found that somebody had posted this in reply to a similar question that has been asked elsewhere. They didn’t specify what software they were using but I hoping it is Illustrator!

I control the order of cut by manually layering the cutlines into the order I want them to cut. (bottom cuts first, and up from there) It can be time consuming if it is a large complex file.

Hopefully that is the answer, it does sound quite time consuming though but I suppose once I get the hang of it I should be able to quickly sequence a job.

EDIT: From another of his posts it would appear that he is using Illustrator, yippee!!!

Cutting Master has a cut ‘by colour’ check box Jill, does that do it? I’ve never used it.

I sort of do that with Cutting Master.
It’s Corel that I wish had the "select by color" part.
    Maybe I’m just stupid.

Jill it might be worth exploring the layers feature in Draw, you can put items on different layers and then alter the order of the layers.
Just as a side note Signlab has this feature when cutting

Edit, Find and Replace, Find Objects,….from the Find Wizard you should be able to select all objects based on whatever properties you specify.
