  • Secondhand cjv30-60 easy to service? How much does it cost?

    Hi

    I have a chance to buy a secondhand cjv30-60 printer/cutter for a good price
It’s had two owners, had a gold warranty for 2 years and no service for the past year.
Current owner caused an air bubble when changing a black damper and a nozzle has a blockage in the magenta.

Would this be an easy fix?
In the test print one black prints fine, the other prints half.
Is this machine easy to self service?
How much roughly would a company charge to service this machine?
Is the head likely to need changing? Last changed in 2011

    Thanks 🙂

These machines are awesome!! One of the best machines Mimaki ever made in my opinion. Maybe if you could get a picture of the test draw I could give you more of an idea how bad it is.

The capping station (or more importantly the cap slider) deteriorates on them after a couple of years but is dead easy to replace. You could do a lot worse than one of these machines. It’s basically a JV33 and a CG-FX all rolled in to one.

Servicing is fairly minimal and parts are readily available, plus many of the freelance engineers will be happy to take them on.

    I hope that helps.

    Thankyou for replying
I have been offered it for about £2800 if thats a good price?
Not sure what it will cost me to have it cleaned or serviced though
Was told the silver service is about £1800 from hybrid services which would make the machine quite expensive.

Here is the image sent to me, sorry its low res and not great quality but hopefully it shows what you need.

    Regards
    David

Hmmm. If it were me, I would try swapping the 2 black dampers over on the head before committing to buy. If the fault moves from one black to another, then it would just be a damper fault. Otherwise, it might be the head that needs replacing which will add another £1k to cost. Has the fault only just occurred? If it’s been like it for a long time, the head might be goosed anyway. It’s very difficult to say for sure without getting stuck in. From the picture, the magentas both look quite deflected too, which could be the cap itself distorting and not cleaning properly.

There are companies that will give you a more comprehensive cover than Hybrid for a much lower price (Hybrid won’t cover the print head for physical damage as far as I’m aware).

I’d say it’s a pretty good price if the head clears up easily. If it needs the head replacing then you’re looking at more like £4k in total, which I would say is about the going rate. Although I’m more nuts and bolts than sales and I could be out of touch with used prices.

The man selling it says he bought it from a print shop who changed the head in 2011
he then changed the black damper but says he caused an air bubble which has caused the black blockage.

He also says one nozzle on the magenta is blocked which causes the occasional tiny band but he says stickers print 100% fine and the machine runs perfectly.

Makes me wonder if it just need a damn good clean.
From what i’ve read in the manual online it can do a deep clean for a set amount of time with flush through liquid?

From the looks of it even if i had to buy a new head it seems a good price? £3500-4000 for a machine which seems to be around the £7500 mark with a set of inks and software (worst case scenario)

Just had a reply from the seller and he says he does not want to swap dampers as he caused the air bubble in the first already.
Says the machine is left switched on at all times and it regularly does its maintenance sequence.

A seller not wanting to fix a problem pre-sale may not be not letting on that they know it’s not fixable by simple means relying on the ‘sold as seen’ adage.

Flipping dampers is a few minutes work very low risk and I’d guess anybody running a printer knows how to pull ink through to get rid of bubbles either through the pumps or manually.

It’s a tough one as he doesn’t seem too clued up on the machine to be honest.
It could be he’s hiding something or could be that he just doesn’t know how to run any proper maintenance.

He has said I can drive down to him this week to see it all running and watch him to a full test print of stickers.

    thankyou for all the replies.
I have decided to walk away from this printer after contacting the supplier with the serial number.

My guess is they bought it in the summer of this year 2nd hand and the head is damaged in some way and they are now passing the printer on.

After getting a quote for the work that may need doing it takes the printer to almost 5000 which is not too far off a new machine that comes with a full set of inks and warranty.

thats true, although things like the print head wouldn’t be covered would they?

It’s a tough call. He could be genuine, but he could be a crook. Where in the country is the machine? I’d be more than happy to come and take a look with you and advise what would be needed if it’s in the south east?

Dampers are very easy to swap and pull through manually, but on a CJV/JV33/JV5 you need to open the valve manually through engineers mode or you’ll get nothing but resistance.

A new Mimaki will come with 2 years warranty from Hybrid but will NOT cover accidental or physical damage. Other companies will cover that though.

Thanks you for the kind offer but it seems to have been sold already to someone else.
Just need to find the best deal now as most companies all want you to call them with no information available online.
