  • screw banding for post fixing?

Posted by Jeff on August 1, 2024 at 1:04 am

    hi team

i have over 50 signs to fit to different diameter size poles and i am trying to find the quickest way to do this without using the old school metal banding crank method. its slow and i never feel convinced that i get it tight enough. these screw bands look much easier but i am struggling to find where to get them?
trying to google them but i keep getting Chinese suppliers like alibaba.

    any help would be brill.

      thanks colin 👍

i have the banding crank. had it for years mate, i just think its time consuming for a simple process.
maybe it is because i only use it once in a blue moon. but 50 odd signs with one will be torture. 😫

thanks for the help lads 👍

I have the banding tool. Bought it around 20 years ago now and like you, I have never been a fan of using them.
We have done lots of small traffic and post-mounted signs over the past few years. We use two different types of banding similar to the ones you are showing.

    1, JCS Tamtorgue banding

    2, Righton

I forget which is which, but you can buy these quick-fixing clamps ready-sized if you have lots of posts and you know the sizes.
Alternatively, you can also buy a bag of the little cranking mechanisms along with 20+ metres of banding on a roll. you just snip it down to the size you want and fasten the mechanism to tighten it. both are easy to work with.

try and get one with a star screw head or hex head.
the type you get for a flathead screwdriver is a pain and beat the purpose of the ease of use.
There is nothing worse than trying to hold a sign, banding and a cordless gun, at the top of ladders and the head keeps slipping out left and right. 😏

Will try to find who we bought it from, but we have a long reach tamtorgue driver with sleeve to help reach and tighten at speed, handy tool in the drill box.

Just adding this video for reference to using the other banding mechanism.
This type of banding device has been used for many years. A common problem using it is when you have a sign on the opposite side with its weight pulling down, or you are trying to do the same and up ladders. the whole thing becomes difficult to get just right.

    thats the buggar! 😤

once you have one fastened it isn’t as bad because it is then holding the sign. but if you fit it and it isn’t sitting perfectly 😭

i just put it down to my lack of experience using the device.
