F**k me is that even legal to use??? No way I’d let my team on that!

Step ladders selection or tower scaffold here. Did look at a Zarges telescopic tower system due it its small footprint in transport.

For larger jobs, we just hire stuff in (build into quote).

I haven’t seen those ladder-type platforms, but I did a quick Google just there and they are more common than you would think, and they have bigger options too!

As Colin has said, these are not for me or our guys. not a chance. 🤨

    Video:
This shows the “not so easy” building of one of these ladder platforms. skip to about 2m15 seconds, and it really does look like a sketchy building process, never mind having to work from it. 😳

for 90% of the work we do on shopfronts, large vans and trucks and many other situations where access at height is required, we use Aluminium Trestles with a catwalk/staging. They also come with a handrail/guard etc.
These are set up literally in a minute or two, they are very strong, sturdy and good to work from.
We use 8ft high trestles with a 10ft catwalk. which all fit in the van easily.
If we have a truck wrap or similar where a longer walkway is required, we use a second set of trestles and 2 more catwalks giving us a walkway of approx 30ft

like all things, there are cheaper options available, but I recommend getting one with a slightly heavier more robust aluminium. many years ago we bought a set and they were great to lift and setup, but they lasted about 18 months, while our other sets are over ten years old and still in great condition.

For anything beyond 16ft or so, we will consider a scaffold, but I prefer a cherrypicker.

    OMG… that video…
Imagine writing an H&S mission statement for that one… I will show my safety friend this stuff, I get the feeling he’d start crying in a corner!

Rob – two of my team are 6ft 3+ …amazing what they can reach at times 🤣

Colin, I can not see how this would be passed by H&S, but it obviously has for it to be on the market and used in different industries.
Watching the video, just makes me think that it is completely over-engineered.
The staff erecting this have much more to think about than with a standard Scaffold tower. But more importantly, you can see watching lads that have obviously done this before, a lot of times, even they are precariously erecting it, bit by bit.

This reminded me of this old photo from a featured post from Butterfield Signs, here on UKSB.
Now, right there are dedicated, talented staff with balls of steel. 🤯 Painting that structure, and much much higher! 😳

Fred Dibnah would defo’ say it is over engineered!

    thanks for the replies guys.
i am considering the trestles rob. but at around £1000 for both and the walking board, i am thinking should i just go for a scaffold tower because that is £3-£4k ??? 😣

i am not even considering the ladders walkway. 🤠🤣
