I am not a fan of agencies and never have been.
I am not being flippant. I have first-hand knowledge of how they work and know multiple other people having equally bizarre stores. As for the agency setting someone’s worth as a negotiation point, or even just stating the industry expected wage for their candidate, is questionable. Especially when the agency takes a hefty percentage of the negotiated wage!
Do you think an enthusiastic hard-working footballer who has been trained for five years under Alex Ferguson would be worth more than a footballer who has played for five years here and there at random small clubs? I would think so!
My point is, that “years in the trade” do not dictate someone’s knowledge, skill and worth!
The unfortunate reality is, that we all think we know best based on our own experience… because it is “all we know”. So our perceived personal value will always be high!
Also, Job descriptions. A “wrapper” or a “print finisher”. Exactly what do these jobs cover, and expected by the employer for the wage offered?
This is such a diverse industry. There are so many strings to a sign maker’s bow.
I think that if someone truly knows their trade/skill and is a hard worker, they should be able to sell themselves pretty easily.
I realise this is probably not answering your question. it is just meant as some views on the subject.
