Roland Print Head problem, help and advice needed please?
Posted by Shawn Bentley on December 19, 2017 at 11:38 pmhi guys anyone seen this before, left something to print, came back and it had overprinted the whole print with what I can only describe as a grey dirty overprint, tried doing a head clean etc and powerful cleans but nothing is changing it, any help appreciated please, tia

Looks to me like an electrical fault on head 2. Could be slider or cable fault but most likely head I’d say. Is it a Pro? XF/XJ?

Hi Stafford thanks it’s a EJ640, I printed a cmyk price on high quality backlit so was 32 pass just after and solved it and it just went away ? But I have not clue what it was ?, something I noticed when cleaning heads etc on maintenance mode was that the side gaurd and the strip just before the bed finishes towards where the head sits was covered in ink so it was like it had printed on the metal guard and the printer bed? Hope this helps ps I’ve added a new test print this morning and has 2 nozzles missing on the magenta which is giving me slight banding with reds and pinks, i can’t get rid of them with powerful cleans etc i there a better way to free up these nozzles? tia

to shawn bentley: i had similar problem and it was removed by head alignment, bit pro job but that sorted for me. also i have noticed many printers miss calibration test after loading any media. that’s very important for nozzles to fire in sync.

hi khaled, thanks for that info will get a service engineer to sort it, thought it may be something to do with the aligninment. many thanks shawn

a dirty encoder strip can cause random printing and from what you are saying may be your issue. Probably worth giving it a clean with a lint free cloth see if it helps.Kev

Cheers Kevin where the encoder strip on the ej640 do u know? Happy new yr mate hope u had a good one

Hi Shawn Happy New Year to you as well mate, never worked on an EJ but unless its been replaced with an encoder on the scan motor its got to run the length of the printer normally around the vicinity of the linear rail the carriage rides on. As i said its not unheard of that the strip gets dirty from print dust and throws up random issues

Hi Shawn
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but did you ever get to the bottom of this one?
I have a very similar issue on the same machine but mine is printing yellow and off to the other side!
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Alex
