  • removing berlingo side mouldings

I’m part wrapping a couple of Berlingo vans tomorrow and it occurs to me the job would be so much easier if I could temporarily remove the plastic side mouldings. Can anyone advise of these are just clipped into place and how easy are they to remove and refit?

There is various ways mouldings are put in place Phill. which i am sure you know fine having your background in building cars from scratch! I am part wrapping a van just now and as much as i know how to remove this part of moulding and was attempting it earlier today, it split! the part was brittle due to age. lucky for me when i snapped it back in place it was good as new, could not see the split in the plastic.

sometimes its clips, sometimes its double sided tape.
I use plastic wedge tools like below to prise off parts.

however, often you will get a small keeper screw just inside the door nearest the pillar. if you undo this screw the moulding can slide back a half inch and releases itself. not saying this is the case, just one to check for as it makes life easy.

Didn’t know about the keeper screw. Will have a look and see if they have one tomorrow. Thanks Rob

Dont think the Berlingo has a screw. They will prise off but some clips will break. I usually buy a bag off ebay as the dealer will charge silly money for them,

if they are held on with a high bond tape, heat the area hot with large circular motion to heat the metal "not" the plastic as such. this will soften the adhesive on the tape and aid in removing the parts without too much effort.

Thanks for the advice – I’m part way through this now and decided to leave the trim panels in place and cut around. Following Jons advice I googled Berlingo trim clips and discovered they are arrow shaped so unlikely to come out without breaking. Don’t have time to order in replacement clips (pity I hadn’t asked this question a few days earlier) but will probably prepare better next time.

Trim and protection mouldings are not a removable item any more.
They either break or badly deform on removal.
Customers should be made aware of this and have to pay for damage on removal.
I remember someone coming over from Seat as my partners Leons water pipe had become disconnected from the rear spay.
The tech from Seat came out with a large srew driver and hammer!!
He then removed the two side panels which are access to the fog lights and promptly smashed the plastic fixings of each side.
Supposedly if you do not break these you will destroy the whole interior panel as their were to many clips holding it on.

All vans that we colour change have the trims removed, same with lights and sometimes even bumpers.
I break the odd clip but 95% of the time they go back on fine!
We do ALOT of commercial work usually on the same vans so i do have a good idea where to pull haha
