  • Refrigerated Trailer Full Colour Price

Posted by David Hammond on August 17, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Just had an enquiry in from a customer.

They want a full colour laminated print to go onto their truck side. 16.3x3m

Both sides that works out 97.8 Sq/M

They have a sign company already but they don’t do print, so I have been asked to price up the job, supply only, and supply & Fit, artwork supplied.

I’m planning on using Metamark MD5, with matching laminate.

I’m struggling with pricing this, as my spreadsheets worked it out around £1992+VAT supply only which equates to £20 Sq/M
    😕

    Any Ideas??

    David
chances are that @ 100 sqmtrs people are supplying that at a rate of between
    £10 – £15 per sqmtr

    quote David Hammond:

    truck side. 16.3x3m

average drop on a standard artic trailer unit is about 100inches / 2.5m
artic trailer unit length is max 44ft / 13.3 m

    are your sizes correct mate?

also, remember the rear, has that to be done too?
if so is it Barn Doors or up and over roller shutter?

    Morning rob.

Those were the sizes provided by the haulage company, and are what i’ll base the price on.

is it 16.3 metres or feet? if metres its not road legal, hence why i ask.

obviously 3 metre / 120inch drop for the sides is doable, but must be a custom box for a specific type of content as its refrigerated.

im guessing the rear doors arent getting done then?
reason i say is because you can spend as much time doing the back doors as you will a full side due to all the hinges and door closure bars.

as a bench mark for laminated prints, including the installation, you should be charging about £50 per square metre.

your versacamm will take a full day printing.
be sure to have enough media of same brand/series because if you change to a different brand say 3M to metamark you will get a colour change mid way on the truck.
you will also get the same if you use two types of laminate. in work it will look perfect, but outside on a truck, stood back you can see its pretty easily. so be sure its same print and laminate media.
also, print an entire side in one day.
dont print one side and half the other, then the remaining half the following day. same scenario, you will get changes in the colour of panels. only slightly but again, outside you will notice it.
trust me, i have all the T-shirts to prove it. :lol1:

give your panel overlap about .75 inches. it helps allot with alignment should you begin to run off.
if it helps any, use an air escape type adhesive. i dont use this but will aid your application if its your first big install like this.
also, do NOT underestimate a panel running off by a couple of millimetres.
over a long truck those couple of will will increase to inches 3-4 panels along the truck and brining it back into line takes a fair bit of experience.

anyway, hope this helps a little.

Hi Rob they’re the sizes the client provided. I’m yet to do a trailer, so have no idea of the size.

I’ve put a price in to them, but I am not sure if they’re just fishing for a price, as I know one of the directors is involved with another sign company who didn’t have the print facility.
