  • Re installation of manufacturer Badges after wrapping

Posted by Jamie Palmer on June 28, 2021 at 7:12 am

Usually after wrapping I provide the badges in a bag for the customer. I have re installed in the past and they have dropped off and had to reimburse the client. In most designs the badges would just be in the way of the design. Do you refit or return? If so any tips on re applying, tapes, spacing tricks etc?

We refit the badges usually if they don’t get in the way of the design. Usually using VHB tape, but it can be time consuming trimming it round the letters.

We have tried a 3m product from Signgeer, where if the foam backing is still on the letters, just push it on the clear adhesive sheet, and reinstall. It seems to work, and saves much messing about.

Aside from that, they’re popped in a bag, and placed in the glove box.

We remove the badges, stick them in a small plastic bag and put it in the glove box.

If the customer wants them refitted, then it’s an hourly rate because you have to clean the glue/tape off the rear of the letters, then reapply the fresh tape and install it accurately. or the letters can be all up and down. Yes, you can use the 3M dot tape, but unless you template the letters, you are still doing it by eye.

Alternatively, buy the badges at a local garage, it can work out cheaper sometimes and you get it spot-on.
I did this with a fleet of about 80 vehicles. the badges cost about £25 for the set and I just added it to the cost of the vans. meant we were not faffing around with little plastic letters.

I see the point if it’s a colour change for a car, but not a commercial vehicle. again, its often better to buy the badges in and add to the overall price. makes sure its done correctly and always looks better.

Good shout buying in fresh ones, I think that’s probably the way forward, I don’t have the hours in the day to be playing with these but on some designs they would be better back on the vehicle in the instance that they look like they are missing.

We used to put the badges back on, but it takes time and effort for a thankless task.
I add a couple of lines at the end of my quote for vehicles, I find it worth adding as it has never come back to me yet.

    examples:
1 The vehicle must be washed prior to arrival or a £20 fee to wash and dry the vehicle will apply.
2 Vehicle badges that obstruct graphics will be removed and placed in your glove box or boot.
If you wish to have these replaced, a £20 fee applies.
3 No-Show Installation bookings that are not cancelled 24hrs prior to arrival, will carry a £20-£40 depending on the time allocated for the job.

I have more but i forget them off hand.

I tell my clients- and I strongly believe in this my self, that vehicle brand badge shouldn’t interfere with clients branding. They get removed when needed.

Badge/ letters are put in the glove box.

This the wrap in the back of my van, I think the badges back on this design would not interfere with the design, I have ordered a set of new ones, i am going to give the customers the option of either in a bag or fresh from manufacturer fitted.

Nice design to promote wrapping, Jamie.

Peter, we have something similar for cleaning vans in general.
