    welcome

    if the ribbon broke and now not printing well might be a bit of ribbon melted on the head.
    slip a mirror under the head and have a close look

    I should have been more specific. The ribbon I referred to was the

    electrical one that connects head to carriage board;

    Sorry!

    just looked at a old one to see if that could be used, but it don’t just plug in to the head so thats out of the question.
    as you are in the states its a lot easyer for you to get a new head from rolandusa and the last i heard is they fit it as well in a all in charge

    with a lot of luck and very carful soldering might be able to save the old one tried a few times on other things
