Got a customer wanting a world map putting on their wall in a grey vinyl @ 2000x1000mm. We’ve got the vector file, but every time we send it to cut in Cutting Master it freezes, I suspect it’s the number of paths.

I’ve scaled it down to 5% in Illustrator to speed up getting it into CM3, but then when enlarging to 2000% CM3 has a wobbly.

Any suggestions on how to simplify it without loosing too much detail?

    Thanks in advance.

My software has an "autocleanup" feature which simplifies vector files. Post an eps and I will try and simplify it for you

Can it be welded or combined David?

I’ve downloaded CM4 (not the best user interface) there’s loads of detail on the map, and it’s worked out 6363m of cutting :blushing: I’ve managed to get the plotter to start cutting it, and see what happens. It’s been at it an hour already.

The customer is aware we may loose the odd island or lake during weeding. 😆

I’m imagining what your customer looks like and I’ve got this mental image in my head that I can’t get rid of..

Maybe save it as a bitmap and then let your software retrace it..

I did a world map a few weeks back, but it was printed about 1.25m high by whatever length.
Trick part was i had to wrap a huge aluminium ball with it… Now that was fun! :awkward:
it was applied a bit like a Terry’s Chocolate orange…. that had melted! 😆 joking aside, they loved it.

Seriously though, I recon just quickly tracing the map by hand would be quicker long term, save your self a bit of time. miss out Syria and North Korea as I doubt there will be much left of either pretty soon! :awkward:

Oh and add a wall along the Mexican border? just sayin. 😆

Plotted in a few hours. Lots of jaggered edges of continents, and lakes & islands, but will looks ace when it’s fitted.

Global warming has taken effect with several Islands now wiped out… and somehow Paraquay has vanished too :blushing:

Weeding out all the borders is fun.

In all fairness it’s weeded great, cut well.

Cut using Mactac 9800, Matt Grey.

Cut surprisingly well and weeded well. Installation went as planned and the customer is happy.

Still think it needs a series of wavy lines to indicate the orbit of the orbiting "laser" :awkward:

About 2-3 hours cutting, 2 hours to weed it, and an hour to apply it.

I would’ve printed it, however the wall it’s on is huge, with a solid background it can be troublesome getting a consistent solid, plus papering the entire wall would have cost a fortune.

What didn’t help was all the borders are made up of 3 cut lines, so each countries border needed weeding twice :blushing:
