Pixalated Jpegs in Coreldraw
Whenever I import jpegs into Corel, they are always pixalated, it appears as though Corel is reducing the dpi of any imported jpegs to 72 X 72 dpi even if the source file is 300dpi.
Anybody come across this and have any ideas how to fix it? using Coreldraw X4

What is your ‘view” setting ? Sounds like it’s set to draft where enhanced is our preferred setting.
When you import a jpeg what dpi does it say at the bottom of the page ?

Hi John,
I always have view set to ‘enhanced with overview’, at the bottom of the page the dpi always shows as 72 x 72 even if the dpi I’m importing is 300 dpi.

Don’t have Corel on this computer, but I think it will be something in Options, you need to change the setting it imports at there and save as your default.

Options
Page size
ResolutionSave settings as default.

That has definitely done something, jpegs still looks pixalated in Corel compared to other programs, but appears to be printing OK and not as bad as they appear on screen.
Maybe its just one of those strange software quirks I’ll have to live with for now.

This has sorted my problem out
Tools>Options>Workspace>Display> make sure ‘Antialias bitmaps in enhanced view’ is selected. it’s not activated by default.

Just be aware that with that setting on the display can flatter the quality of the bitmap with disapointing results when printed. Draw often importss as 72dpi but if the bitmap was reduced in size to the size it was generated at it would be the correct resolution. X6 includes Photozoom V2 and in terms of quality use that to size the bitmap at the required resolution. 100dpi or thereabouts at actual size is normally fine.
