PhotoShop ‘nothing selected’ problem

Make sure that the layer you are trying to marquee is actually selected in the tray.

Hi Peter it is but when I start the marquee a new layer seems to open for it? and it jumps down?

Are you sure you are using the marquee tool, as what you have explained happens when you use the rectangle tool to draw a vector box??

Hi nigel is the auto select feature ticked on the top tool bar when you click on the move tool??

also sometime you get problems when you accidentally create a tiny marquee box without noticing it on the screen. so just click the marquee tool and click anywhere on the page and see if that makes a difference.

Also as Ian explained it sounds more like what happens when you use the shape tool. Hold the top left tool if the rectangular marquee is hidden. (Thats if it is the wrong tool that is being selected.)

I would be happy to find out the problem for you mate. Is it possible to see a screen capture??

im at home now will check in the morning but im sure its the marquee tool that’s highlighted what happens is in this instance is select the flattened image create the marquee tool and when i drag it round the area i want it creates the box and at this point in the tray it creates another item called marquee tool and a the box pops up saying that nothing is selected. I have done this thousands of times so I feel that i must have clicked or ticked a box will check what you guys say and thank you will let you know tomorrow!
