    Hello there..
I am a new one to this site .I have been painting signs for about ten years now..( getting faster, but no better.)
I must to say, there is some brilliant stuff produced by you lot..!!!
Now may I dip into the fountain of knowledge and scoop some advice..?
I have been working in a pub by Everton`s football ground, painting signs..
the boss has asked can I paint the Everton badge on the newly covered pool table…!
I ain`t too sure what to do and don`t want to ruin the table..
Has anybody ever painted a pool table..?
Would paint spoil the path of the ball..?
    Any help would be great…

Jim, Anything on the table will affect the ball 😮

Cant think of any way of getting an image onto it apart from the substance they use for the baulk line and semi circle.

I can only think of using ink. Something that will soak into the baize and leave the surface feeling the same.

You could get a stencil cut and stipple ink through it, very dry, as the ink would spread.

Why anyone would want to put the Everton crest on a pool table when you could put the Liver’POOL’ one on 😀 😀

As said, any paint or ink is going to stiffen and harden the nap, destroying the table.
Could he not rig up a projection as part of the table light system? Just a thought.

    Hi Jim

Paint is out, dyes are possible.

The item used to mark baulk and ‘d’ and spots is simply fine line indelible black marker pen (one with an ink that doesn’t bleed into the material).

You could print when the cloth is off the table but trouble here is that the cloth is stretched when fitted to the table so any design would ‘warp’.
That leaves applying on the table; textile inks/dyes, templates and an airbrush seems to be the way.

It won’t work, it’ll just ruin the table, I’ve worked with that type of stuff before on exhibition work.

Airbrush is an option, it’ll still ruin it as a pool table, but it will look reasonable.

The only way it could be done properly is for it to be dyed during manufacture, and even then it’d probably distort when fitted.

Using a GOBO (you can get these made up) of the Eveton logo into a lamp "Source four" 35 degree profile spot would do the job without trashing the table. Gobo come in different sizes for different lamps, A, B size and for moving lamps z size.

I sure wouldn’t want to f*ck up an expensive thing like that!
    😳
Explain to him that anything is going to effect the table and then sell him a sign. You can do your best paintwork on it and it can be displayed near the table, maybe incorporated into some sort of rack for cues.

Sure I saw them on the "auction site" when we were looking to buy a pool table for the pub. Just do a search for pub pool tables, you will get all sorts of accessories up.

Don’t touch it with a barge pole, whatever you do will ruin it.

Jill trust me it wont be a masterpiece of a table in a PUB near Goodison, its not exactly well Beverley Hills to give you an insight more like Queens 😀

    John

Ps i thought Gobo too before I got that far down the posts – wot Graham said will work.

Looking at what’s possible, in the link below, I think they’re dye sublimated.

    Thanks for the advice…
I will mention to himself the idea of projection onto the table…( sounds good) and will see what other options you suggest..
and..it has been a hard job painting the Everton motto here and there ( being a staunch LFC)
A hardship reflected into the price.!!!
    thanks again for the advice

I love the stuff on the link John’s posted, makes me think I need a pool table just as an excuse to get a print made 😎

Can’t quite see how you could project with the pool lights in the way? Good idea if it would work though.

    Hi guys,

We sell pool tables (amongst other games room equipment) and the only way we have got a decent result is to get the cloth pre-printed from one of the cloth manufacturers. They can be a bit funny about football logos though, often requiring written permission of the club. If the logo is one they haven’t printed before they will charge a set-up charge and also a charge per colour.

I’m not sure the exact technique they use, but it doesn’t affect play nor the nap of the cloth.

    .

An existing table can be re-clothed pretty easily, if you get a cloth that matched the cushions then its a pretty straight forward job that many pool tables professionally can complete quickly.

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you need any more information.
