Occasional use printers
Posted by Ewan Chrystal on 6 February 2013 at 09:22Is there such a thing as a cheap, reliable vinyl printer that would do for occasional use or is it very much a case of you get what you pay for?

Occasional use for a solvent printer is not good……they are far better and give less problem when used regularly.
Remember that they run a clean cycle even when not being used so are constantly using ink….so they cost you to sit idle.

If you are looking at doing digital printing then the best way to start for many people is to use a trade printer, your not turning work away, you can still make a profit, you have none of the headaches involved with owning a printer & the learning curve is no where near as steep. You only need to learn how to produce the artwork.
If that side of the business grows then you reach a point where you have enough work each month to think about buying your own machine. What you decide to do at that point is really up to you. -
Can you recommend anyone up this next of the woods Martin?

I don’t know anyone up your way Ewan & I like to use someone local myself, that way I can pop in & check the artwork before they print plus if I do get a rush job I can go speak to them about it.
Best bet is to have a hunt about yourself, problem some people might have using someone local is losing work to them because they pinch your customer. Have to be honest & say I know the guy who owns the company I use & that is never going to happen. Known him for about 10 years or so, do a bit of contract work for them when they are overstretched & pass on the odd job that is to big for myself.Maybe someone on the forum up your way might offer or suggest someone.

Local would be good but in saying that, from here local could be 30 miles away lol. Because of my location most of the suppliers i’ve been looking at for just about everything are online, which is fine but it also means i may be missing out on good suppliers just because they are not appearing on search engines
