New printer – pros and cons
Posted by Matt Oxley Matt Oxley on August 8, 2019 at 1:07 pmGood afternoon
I’m in the market for a new printer (print and cut)
Currently looking at the Vs540i and VG2-540, we currently have a Sp300v but looking for something a bit wider, faster and overall better!
We are doing a lot of motocross graphics at the minute and printing/cutting them through our little versacamm
Would appreciate pros and cons of the two machines above, or open to suggestions! On the bigger machine we’d like to do as much as possible – banners, digital wallpaper, printed wrap vinyl etc 🙂
Thanks in advance

Epson 80600 and a separate cutter! The separate cutter would allow you to produce more work, more efficiently! The Epson colour vibrancy I feel is unrivalled! Plus you get white & metallic ink! Uses red and orange ink to, so reds and oranges are ultra vibrant! The price of this machine is very impressive to!

HP Latex package – Printer with stand alone cutter. Faster workload throughput which makes them more efficient than an all in one print/cut

Im with Luke! Epson 80600 is the best decision we ever made! Did look at other machines but the Epson in my eyes Top trumped all of them. We work with a stand alone cutter (summa D-140). Good Luck with your search!

Any particular reason Mutoh is never mentioned on this forum? :shake: :smiles:

Although they are no doubt good machines, I don’t think they are at the forefront of the industry. Seems very much like Epson / HP at the moment

My concerns when upgrading my 1624x was that they had nothing to upgrade me to! The 1638x just isn’t good enough and to reach the quality of a 1624x I was told to slow it down, which was then the speed of a 1624x. Looked elsewhere, HP and Epson and then decided on the S80600, haven’t looked back. Printing white has changed my business.

Fair enough, just thought i would ask :smiles:. But yes totally agree with mutoh not making any big strides. The new machines seem have little upgrades. But….im one for reliability, all singing and dancy normally has issues and costs to fix.
Obviously depends what your workload and clients.

How’s the drying times with the Espons?? That was my fear the outgassing it’s still a solvent machine??
-
We run 2 Epson 40600 machines and can’t fault them. We usually leave the prints 10 minutes to dry before cutting down and overnight if laminating them. We often leave them running on take up overnight and have never had any issues.
-
4-6 hours officially according to supplier however we laminate with 30s of coming off the printer and never had a single issue. Solvent has changed massively.

Did you do John Mulhollands new Fabia & Fiesta Bernard?
-
Yeah my brother is navigating this year for Johnnie Mulholland in the Fiesta & John was meant to do Donegal in the Skoda but his mother died the week before.
We sponsored the Skoda Wrap as it was for the Friends of Cancer Charity & fair play to Joe in Sign & Digital sponsored the yellow cast wrap. The Mulhollands are doing a massive amount of fund raising this year.

Must say their cars look great. Our units just beside VSM who work on a pile of rally cars. Seen then when I was over doing work for them. We do Mulhollands advertising vehicles with the "Friends of the Cancer Centre" bonnet graphics added for free. Fair play to them, their definitely doing a lot for that charity. Joe & the guys from SD+ are great. Be careful with their rolls of Orajet. We just printed a full van wrap on a roll of 3651g which was in a box labeled as 3951gra proslide. Never even thought to check the back as it came straight from the box onto a printer. Simple mistake which they sorted out immediately without question.

Nice one Jon! You’ll love it! All the best with your new purchase. If you need any help, let me know.

Yes I did and it was great. The initial training we received from the supplier was great but it was a change to get out of the print room with no phones/emails etc and have training somewhere different. Recommend it, it’s just a reinforcement of what you get shown at the install.
