New HP Printers with onboard media trimming in XY directions.
I received an e-shot from a Chinese company promoting their laminator which had an integrated sort of X-Y cutter on board. Very clever I thought… but then more I thought about it, the more I could see it could easily go wrong, you know how tricky a laminator can be to set 100% true. Yes very doable, but still. Then there is the fact that the majority of stuff spat out of China is junk… not all but plenty of it, so I dismissed it as a simple and clever idea!
Then I saw that HP has launched the following printer with a very similar setup…
"HP DesignJet Z6 And Z9⁺ 44-in PostScript Printer With V-Trimmer | V-Trimmer Technology"
Alignment for a start is much easier and I do not see HP launching it without it actually being properly tested.
Have to say this put a smile on my face as this is obviously the way things are moving and only time before HP has this on multiple types of their machines, then closely followed by competitors doing same or similar. If the likes of latex machines had this, how easy would it be knocking out roll-up and pop-up stands all day long using one of these? and truck wraps that have around x25no. panel drops at 9ft deep… time-saving on that alone is worth it, never mind the number of fingertips lost in the process. :awkward:
the downside, for now, is the prints cant be then laminated… but going by the Chinese laminator I saw, this is just around the corner too!
Anyway, I do like seeing new and innovate things coming into the market, especially equipment we will use every day!
