As you may have noticed by now. We have a “news ticker” in place at the top of our home page. At this moment, it is still under construction along with a couple of other new features.
What I would like to ask is your opinion on the ticker for now.

Do you think it’s a good idea?
Do you think it looks good/professional etc?
Most importantly, does it work with your browser?

There has also been a news archive created. All old news is now in an archive.
Click “old news” at bottom of home page to view it.

One new feature still to be added is a spell checker for the posts be made. (Yes this is for me)
This should arrive soon. But some other bits and bob have been given priority for now.

    Anyway.. ticker… Anyone?

I’ve got my mouse on slow.. had trouble trying to catch the news ticker 😆

Not too keen to be frank, a little plain. I do like the graphics on the demo & clip art sections.

    He he he

    Computer: Mac G4 dual processor.
    Operating system: OS 10.2.3
    Browser: Safari 1.0 Beta 2 (v73)

Let’s see you sort that out. 😀

No, that’s not fair. I’ll give you a clue.

I have the preferences set not to accept cookies from anywhere other than those sites to which I navigate. This eliminates a lot of pop-ups, unwanted advertising etc etc. Would that cause the non appearance of the ticker?

Having said that, another site I use regularly has the BBC news ticker at the top and that works.

    Robert,

I have just tried Internet Explorer and the ticker scrolls on that.

However, on Explorer the site does not look anywhere near as good as on Safari. Some of the graphics are missing and the dynamic page sizing doesn’t work. It’s also a lot slower.

    Back to Safari!!!

Seems to work fine for me on ie5, I think it is a good idea but what are you going to put in it?
Will it be general sign related news or news relating to the web site ?

Ticker works fine on AOL 7.0 broadband.

What sort of things will you put in?

good to see its working with the biggest hitters browsers of the site so far…
john i havent heard of that browser mate.. who does it?

    the content will be mixed.
    nothing set as yet..

if i have a general announcment to be made ill put it there
things like a certain demo im doing or one coming up.
or.. “pick of posts” maybe go in there..
there is lots of things.. but exactly what at this moment im not 100%
if a supplier has a special offer on that may be advantagous to us all, then it will go in there.. they may also have an ad-link in it.. linking to a post or their site.

in short it gives me a new area for news, announcments & ads. without sacrificing space and download time.

i have thought it maybe a good idea since constantly reading the news ticker at the bottom of the CNN NEWS channel.

each message in the ticker will link to a site or a post within this site. once link is followed the news will go into more detail based on what one you click.

    Hi Robert.

Apple does it. It now comes pre-installed on every new Apple computer and is also available as a free download from http://www.apple.com for older machines.

Of course, you need a Mac to run it. 😆

I think that it was a bit of a reaction to the current bloatware from Microsoft and Netscape and is a very lean, mean browser. It is many times faster, four times according to those people that can measure these things, and, as I said above, the appearance of this site and others is much better on it.

    Regards – John
