    Hello all,

a Summa S120D cutting plotter comes on thursday. I got it used by a Summa dealer in my town for a fairly good price. It will be used to cut stickers printed by my Mimaki print&cut so that I can contour cut while I am printing.

I will use my design workstation which is an iMac to control the plotter. The RIP station for my mimaki (PC running Windows) is too far from my desk to use a Windows operating system to control the cutting plotter.

I had a demo of macsign from my dealer, very poorly featured but OK for contour cut. I can cope with it I think (I hope so!)

Now I also have a Graphtec CE5000-60 which I use a lot on cut vinyl. The cutting master Illustrator plugin is really powerfull, allowing to set a number of pieces to be cut with a live preview on the screen of how it will be placed on the sheets so I can optimize

I have no space left to keep these 3 plotters (summa s120d and graphtec ce5000-60 and integrated cutter of my Mimaki CJV30) so I plan that the summa will also do the cut vinyl jobs and sell my Graphtec. Macsign looks very poor compared to cutting master towards this preview on the sheet and I don’t see how I could work with it for these jobs.

I had a look at signcut but doesn’t look to handle the OPOS for contour cut (am I wrong?). Or maybe I would use macsign for contour cut and signcut for cut vinyl?

I could also use the WinXP virtual machine that I have on OSX but the direct export from Illustrator on OSX to the cutting software on the virtual machine is not possible I think (it’s like export to an other computer on the network)

Which software running on MAC do you advise me with same features as cutting master (of FineCut of my Mimaki which is also OK)? (?)

It should also have/be an export plugin from Illustrator as I don’t want to export to a file that I import manually in an other software. For the number of small cut jobs I do, it is a lot of time lost in the day. (:)

Thanks in advance for your advices

You can download from the Summa website a plugin for Adobe illustrator wich places contourcut info into your document before exporting!

I use macsign (lite version) but you can upgrade this onto full version with contourcut options etc.
