Mutoh cleaning itself excessively
Posted by James Langton on April 1, 2009 at 9:23 pmWondering if anybody can help
Came in on monday morning to find our rockhopper 3 saying that the yellow is out of ink, no worries there it was low anyway.
But then looked at the waste tank and it was half full when it was only emptied last friday.
My guess is the machine has cleaned it self to much. Went into the menus and the its cleaning is set to normal. But cap cycle is set to every 6. Is this right.
Thanks Again

I think it’s probably got OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) 😕

Sounds more like the Maintenance Station as got swollen sponges causing the ink to siphon into the waste tank. Be careful because it can empty all the carts in the worse cases. Maintenance stations should be changed every 12mths to 24mths

I dont think it is beacuse this has never happened before over the weekend to go from a bit of waste in the bottom of the tank to half a tank is not right. I think someone here may have changed a cleaning setting.

if a cleaning setting had been changed then it would be emptying all carts, do the other carts seem to be lower. I had a smaller Mutoh dump the CMY carts in the waste tank causing it to overflow all over the floor. The RH3 is a slightly different system so can drain one colour on its own. You may find it won’t do it again for a while as the sponges can shrink back problem is it can then happen out of the blue loosing you all your ink. Hopefully you will discover it is a setting that has been changed. Best of luckKev

I recently acquired a second hand rocky 3 and am currently on the learning process. What was noticed at service was that the ink pump pipes were squashed flat from use and they were replaced with new pipe. maybe it is possible for ink to leak by the pump and siphon. a clear waste bottle may let you monitor better. try a night with the machine on and one with it off ?.
I have set light head cleaning and leave the plug in but machine off.
My problem is printing fine text about 2 to 3 mm high in black. Can you print fine text like this ?.
