Just wondered if anyone has any advice on Monitor and printer calibration devices as their seems to be a few out their,

I have a Spyder3 Elite, I bought it a while back so can’t remember why I chose it but do remember researching it quite seriously. I would choose a Spyder3 over a Spyder2 if the budget allows. Datacolour also make sell some printer calibrators which link up with the Spyder systems.

But i think the eye one is more common, don’t know if that means it is better or not, just i see that a lot more 😕

Try Apple Cinema display if your running cheap monitors, then again quite a few of the cheap monitors have good gamuts these days.

Then look at calibration after that… dont both with tuning crappy old displays

Also LED backlit monitors are certainly worth a look at

Unfortunately I’m not using a Mac so the apple cinema display is out unless it’s a windows program,

I would also need it for either with an add-on or built in Printer calibration So what I see on the screen matches what i actually get of of the printer….

You might consider the Xrite ColorMunki (awful name) as an all in one package. The design version will allow you to work with CMYK printers as well as RGB (which the R1800 pretends to be).

It is based on the technology used in the EyeOne devices, but with simplified software and hardware. It should build acceptable profiles for a variety of media, and can be used in an iterative process, to fine tune.

It should also work well with most LCD screens. The key is to control the light landing on the screen (as little as possible), and the light illuminating the printed material (not too bright, and correctly "tuned" – using a desk top viewing booth from some one like GTI lighting, or Juste Normlicht will help. The better the screen (my preference would be the Eizo Coloredge range), the more accurate the proofing, provided you have the correct working lighting.

    Welcome to colour management.
