Minimum Order / Set Up Charges
I’m seeking some advice/reassurance on this.
A couple of changes lately that have seen me look at costs & how I price jobs again, renewing the lease on the workshop with a not insignificant rent increase, and more suppliers implementing minimum orders, or surcharges on orders.
As a business I understand, it’s the same at our end, where some jobs simply don’t return the profit when you weigh up the time and effort involved. I’ve been a bit lax with minimum orders yet the local franchise seem to quote £150.00 for any small jobs.
Looks like I need to bite the bullet and start passing on some costs, incorporating ‘set up’ costs into prices, and having minimum orders.
I’ve spoken with a few other sign makers, who are experiencing the same, and we’ve all got a different take on it, so interested to hear others.
NB: I tend to look at what I could get for the price of a job… eg: two personalised magnetic signs for £20… when a mass-produced Tesco meal deal is £3.40 (with a Clubcard) That £20.00 wouldn’t get a takeaway for Mrs and me on a Friday. NB2 (I don’t charge £20!)
