Hi and thanks for the add to your group. Can someone help me. I have the mimaki plugin for adobe Illustrator which I use to trace a cutting round graphics. This will work for square graphics etc on vector graphics but when I bring say a round jpeg into Illustrator and trace it then use the frame extraction tool it gives me a square frame instead of round. I have tried using the outline extraction tool but when I output the file to Rasterlink I get the cut file but the other linked file which should be the colour graphic is blank and not showing.
I’m sure it’s something simple but I’m new to Illustrator and Rasterlink.

    Thanks in advance

I might be wrong, but it sounds like it could be your hitting auto trace, and that is tracing the square image you have placed in illustrator (even though its showing a circle graphic), therefore if you double click on the image you will see the square box it has drawn.

Your need to double click and then delete the outer box so it will then have the circle you want it to trace.

Sorry to revive the old thread, sitting here on a Saturday night bored as the wife puts up the Xmas tree!

But try using illustrators image trace feature.

    Copy image initially

    Window> image trace

Open the options and select grayscale, tick ignore white.

Then expand, select all and use shape builder tool holding the shift key and drag over the full trace

Now paste in place (hold shift whilst using ctrl (Cmd if Mac) and V)

    Send image to back

Highlight all and ctrl (or cmd) and press 7.

    That creates clipping mask.

I’ve used the mimaki trace feature and not been too impressed so far
