Here’s a couple of pictures of my work’s latest project. If you look at the pictures you can see that they are made from layers instead of a digital print (customer’s spec). They are made of Foamex, sprayed into colour.

CNC cut then sprayed into the colours before the pain-staking job of building it up.

Not sure as to the paint used as I’m not a sprayer and didn’t spray them. Think they were for a child’s nursery or fun house.

great work nik, i like those… do you know how the edges of the foam were sealed prior to painting by any chance?

thanks for taking the time to post your work.

Yes the edges were covered with spray putty and sanded prior to spraying. This gives a solid look to the edges.

    spray putty?
we have a form of putty for sealing edges and the like. not putty as in window putty i know… but… well hard to explain. anyway, i dont even know if we have it anymore as it was pretty naff….

do you have a link to the stuff online? we don’t use foamex if we can help it but i did some signs two weeks ago and made some features from 10mm foamex and it was the edges that didn’t look good enough for me once sprayed. this would have been ideal if i had it handy.

thanks in advance for any feedback nik…

a good product for sealing Foam edges is EVO STIK 3019, it’s basically PVC pipe Glue ( great fun to work with, make a bad day feel great :lol1: ) it seals the edges perfectly. to save having to fill 10mm. use 10mm Foamalux ultra, as well as 5mm foamalux ultra, the hard face product has a lot denser core and so doesn’t require filling, a light prime and two coats of paint and your done., It cost a bit more i know but the difference in labour more than makes up for it.
