  • LED House Identity Sign, help needed please?

Posted by Roy Salmon on January 31, 2021 at 12:02 pm

Hi I am a Design Consultant from the New Forrest and have joined uksignboards in the hope that you may be able to help. I have created an exciting “House Identity” sign for the affluent House Owner. With over 50 years experience in Architecture and Interior Design I am more than confident the project has real potential for the post Covid future. I am looking for interested parties to consider working with me on bringing the venture to market. I hope this request is not breaking any house rules and look forward to any constructive proposals.

Hi Roy – welcome to UKSB.

Your project sounds interesting, can you provide more details?

There was some discussion here regarding 3D printers and backlit LED signs made using a combination of 3D printer, CNC routing and LEDs (Scroll through the thread to see some examples)

Hi Phill, Thanks for your interest I would explain that I have made both battery and mains led prototypes, have a draft marketing appraisal to meet short and long term trading conditions but really in need of Business and Manufacturing support. You will understand my concern in offering too much information due to Design Protection but any constructive help would be appreciate in order to bring the concept to market. The project is uncomplicated to produce using metal spinning and finishing and off the shelf led systems. I hope this information will help your interest.

I don’t quite understand what you mean by constructive help? It’s hard to be constructive without knowing any details?

Ian sorry my comments are not as explicit as I would like but having been in the Design business for so many years only to see my creations copied I am reluctant to disclose to much information. I respect this approach may seem arduous to the Forum but I cans only elucidate that this venture of mine is a new Start-Up with exciting possibilities. Sign making is at the heart of the product hence my approach th this Forum. I am looking for connections who would welcome a challenge and fully understand the implications of establishing something original. If readers find my approach questionable then again I am sorry but if my comments spark an interest then I would be delighted to take the matter further.

Glad I wasn’t the only one a little confused! 😀

I’ve considered your proposal very carefully but with the lack of relevant detail I have to say I’m out…

I believe Roy is just looking for someone that can help him manufacture his house sign idea in large quantities. He obviously thinks his idea is original & unique & as such doesn’t want to expose it to all & sundry yet until he has some sort of copyright on the design (presuming that has been applied for?)

Although Roy you say this is essentially a sign & that is why you joined this forum looking for manufacturing support, you mention that the production is “uncomplicated metal spinning & finishing”. I have to say this piqued my interest having never heard of metal spinning. A quick Google later I am now enlightened to this unusual & fascinating process (Always nice to learn something new👍), but I fear it is probably not in the scope of the majority of sign companies & would think it would more likely be an engineering company project, or possibly a combination of the two if you can find any that might work together?

Unfortunately, it’s not something I could help you with but would be intrigued to see it when you manage to get it made. Good luck.

    Just for reference purposes.

I am familiar with metal spinning, but as Myles says, I doubt very much if there is anyone I know that offers this service in-house.

Just thinking out loud here having seen Robs video demonstrating the process of metal spinning – could a 3D printer be used to produce something similar, and in fact build on it to produce a more intricate design that couldn’t be achieved using metal spinning alone?

I think your right Phill and limitless possibilities!
Where I see a possible issue would be the finish of the product as there may be a requirement for a polished metal finish similar to the copper in the video.
