before i phone virgin i need to make sure that i aint the problem 😀 i have a few questions that i need answered if possible.

when it says local area connection is connected .Does that mean that there is a good connection between the black motorola box supplied by virgin or does it mean there is internet connection ? Time and time again i just cant get onto the internet ,explorer or firefox. I notice that if i take the plug out of the white router and put it directly into the computor i get a connection but not always . its just so intermitant.I know its confusing…you try sitting here .Any help appreciated

THis means that you have a connection between you and the box but nothing to do with the Internet!

At my mothers place they often have to enter the modem address and manually connect to the internet! BT have no idea why this is the case and keep giving them some fob off storey that it is the cabling!

when you have no internet connection try logging onto the router and check your internet connection. Let me know what it says.

If you dont know how to log into the router give me the name and model number and Ill try and tell you how too!

Hi Ruairi i think its me thats screwed it up. For years ive been running an unsecured network. Ive never really done anything about it ,crazy i know. But the i relized after watching "the real husle" how easy it is for others to see what ive been up to ….i mean all that Porn and Amish cooking and knitting patterns ive been downloading 😀 😀 oh know !!!. Having said all that i went into the router and made it secure the only problem is that now it connects disconnects in seconds i just cant use the wireless so ive resorted to running a cable from it.The main box surfboard (virgin supplied ) seems to have all lights illuminated when its plug directly into the computor so its left me wondering if its a problem with the actuall router (netgear )..any help appreciated mate

    Hi Brian,
I’ve had similar problems in the past and it has been resorted by "turning the router off – leaving it a minute then turning it back on" along with the laptop. I laughed when I was told to do this, I tried it, it worked. 😮

My broadband is with talktalk/opal and thats all the tech people have been taught to say. :lol1:

Leave it wired, it’s MUCH faster for networked PCs

If it’s a clone of the Belkin Wireless rubbish – stick it in the bin.

Does your wireless disconnect even when you have the laptop beside the router/modem?
