  • Installing Mimaki Finecuts without CD drive

We have recently had to upgrade our iOS on our mac which means the creative cloud updated as well, unfortunately this means the Mimaki plug-in has disappeared. I have the original disk but I don’t have a CD drive on either of our iMacs (and the drive on our old imac is no longer working). I have tried the disc in an external drive and can’t get it to read in this either although I have previously copied the info from the disc as well and the exe file doesn’t read on iOS Catalina. Does anyone know of any way of installing the software without the disc?

can you not copy the content to a USB stick and run it from that?

I realise your having issues reading the disc, but could be something as simple as a good clean, does the job. I did this with an old disc only last week!
These days, you often find that disk drives are very temperamental and the slightest whatever, fails to read it. do you know anyone with an older computer that could copy it to USB or burn another copy of the disk?

Failing that it might be faster sending Hybrid an email, include all your info and serial etc and ask to buy a copy. I can’t imagine it being much.

I actually managed to copy the info from the CD before drive died on me. Unfortunately the .exe file doesn’t run on iOS Catalina. I’ll have a look at contacting them with my details. To be fair we have been running it for years now and I would happily pay for the upgrade.

You can’t actually buy FineCut. I think they’ve adopted a different system now, but you still need to authenticate a previous version from a CD. Do you have a different computer with a working CD / DVD drive? If so, go to https://mimaki.com/product/software/cutting/fine-cut9-ai/

and follow the instructions. Failing that, please reply, and I’ll see what I can do.

I have managed to resolve the problem. I downloaded the Mimaki Finecuts 9 software update and opened the dmg file and within this is a file called DiscChecker. I then copied this over to our old iMac (which the Finecuts disc is actually currently stuck in), I ran DiscChecker which gave me the serial number of our Finecuts. Once I had that I ran the installer on the newer iMac and when I opened the Mimaki Finecut window in Adobe Illustrator it asked for the serial number, typed that in and I was good to go! Thanks for the help on this, I guess where theres a will theres a way!
