  • Installation Price – Can’t believe it.

We’ve just quoted on producing a 5300x1200mm composite sign, full colour print and installing. We’ll need to remove the old sign, and being fitted above a shop front.

The customer sent me a quote from another company who’ve quoted half what we have quoted.

We were about £200 out on the sign price, mainly because I quoted using a .3 skin composite, and using 10×5 sheets so there’s only 1 join. All based on full colour print and laminate.

I can live with that, and there’s scope to move.

Next line was installation… £115.00 :yikes:

£115.00 to fit a sign, I’m guessing at least 4hours, 2 men, to remove the old sign and refit the new.

Perhaps we’re too expensive, but that just seems ridiculously cheap!

it’s a joke what some people will charge, I bet you’ll drive by in a few months and it’ll be a foamex sign up there!! I was discussing this with someone complaining about the naff signage in a nearby town, I explained that I have a large ‘non-job / limbo file and it’s full of businesses (new and long time trading) who ask for a sign with all the illuminated bells and whistles, and who then plump for a cheap quote and get tat put up.

as for installation, I agree, even not including travel you’re prob near on 4 hours for a couple of people..
set up scaffold tower or even ladders and remove the old, maybe 60-90 mins, make good anything behind – which invariably needs doing, and put up the new panels, taking care to align properly to minimise joins etc – probably another 1.5 – 2hrs, then pack up will be another 30mins at least.. We’re £40 ph for me on my own, or £60ph if I bring a spare bod along with me. I’d be looking at around £240 plus travel time!

The sign was for a composite sign, full colour print, not sure on laminate.

We go off what subbies charge us, so if we are buay we can outsource. We tend to work on 1/2 or full day rates. Occasionally we charge per hour, like today wjere it was a 2hr job.

Subbies up here are £350 upwards a day.

OK so £115 for installation sounds cheap but that is based on doing the job the way you have described in your post David.

Here is another way I have seen it done
Roll up, throw up 2 ladders, whack new sign on top of old sign with a few screws, (use old sign for alignment as it’s quick & easy), throw ladders back in van & away you go, 30 mins or so I would think 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

I agree with Martin, £115 is probably the Bodgett & Scarper method.
I never worry if I’m beaten on price by such a big amount as I’m Safe in the knowledge that the customer is buying an inferior service and/or materials.
I’ll take a bet that if they have quoted composite, it’s the cheap Chinese crap that buckles at the mere sight of a sun ray.

    Stick to your pricing !!
