Morning all, hope you’re all well.
Bit of a shuffle going on at the minute with our print equipment & I’m looking for advice/opinions on the best move for us.
Clothing printing & embroidery is quite a small part of our output, mainly because it bores me to tears, but, we do have to make more of it as it’s going largely unnoticed at the moment. Getting rid of some of our older machines but potentially keeping my old SP30 purely for garment vinyl. ( I’m stepping out of that side of the business) It’s currently running on Nazdar ink, looking for advice on whether to move it on & replace with something more suitable or change inks for a more resilient ink for clothing

I would suggest keeping it. If its not broke………………. and why invest in a newer machine when clothing isnt a major part of your business.
As for inks i cant see why Nazdar wouldnt be upto the job and equivanlent to any other good eco solvent.

I do a large amount of clothing. dont have any issues with ink quality. They outlast the shirts.

Your right about the bore fest of pressing. Ive just come off 5 straight days. 50 tops , 10 logos per top…. come day 5 im ready to hang myself but then……i write out the invoice. There is good money to be made and the work goes hand in hand with the other parts of our sign trade. From the pressing ive gained other good work.

Keep calm and keep on pressing!

Sorry mate, I’m not doing it, I genuinely hate it that much. Happy for a team member to do it, I openly tell customers I’m not dealing with their clothing, it kills me to even have a conversation about the weight or cut of a polo shirt, however it does add up at the end of the year as you say & I would go as far as saying, it could possibly equal what we do on the sign & display side of the business. What it needs is somebody with real enthusiasm for it & that sadly isn’t me. I have a sizeable customer base & just the existing clients would be enough to make it profitable. I have a twin head embroidery machine (still not interested) an SP30 which just does garment vinyl, a laser cutter, dye sub printer, 2 twin mug presses, 3 heat presses, 2 SRA3 laser printers, A3 guillotine & I hate all of it. It’s a business in a box with no running costs to speak of. I could really do with a half savvy person to manage it, I definitely am not the person to do it

Totally get what your saying. Looks like you should dedicate a member of staff to it, their little baby. Or take on somebody to solely run that side of things.
If i could do the same then i would .
Ok gotta go, that tshirt press is calling my name again

My sympathies mate, I’d lose the will to live. My wife was the intended victim for that side of the operation but having a wife that’s p****d off with you for cracking the whip all day would cost me far too much (I’m sure you know what I mean)
New victims are welcome to apply…

Why don’t you advertise the position for someone to solely run this side of the business Kevin. They can be their own manager/boss so to speak but the equipment & company still belongs to you. You could set a fairly average salary with incentives and bonuses should they hit targets. Maybe set up a sister company so that brand can be built upon. Once it’s been running a number of years you may even be able to sell it on to that person when you are looking at winding down.

Thanks James, my son will be taking over when I go into storage, he’s our lead fitter so far too busy to bother him with hoodies. I think we might have found just the person though, we’ll see…
