  • Illustrator contour cutting – which system?

    Hi
I’m using illustrator CS3 on a Mac with OSx 10.6.7 as I’m a graphic designer by trade, but wanted recommendations for a starting plotter.

I know Mimaki do the CG-60SR with a illustrator plugin, but can anyone recommend it or another system with the ability to work with OSx 10.6.7!!

Maybe the Roland Stika SX, Graphtec Craft ROBO, Graphtec GCC Expert 600mm, Summa D60R FX Vinyl Cutter??

    Thanks

scrub these two for a start… they are for hobby craft type setups.

graphtec, summa, roland etc all good brands… dont go narrower than 610 wide.

Thanks Robert, but scrub which two?
I was thinking about the Graphtec Craft Robo as a starter machine for cutting small logos etc as I only want a desktop option for now, then maybe a larger machine later, but I know what you mean about the 610mm width, most vinyl comes in either a 610mm or 1220mm as I recall?

My own recommendation would be mimaki with the fine cut plug in for illustrator.

    Hi Richard

I work from home and I’m running a Summa T1300 from a Mac. I use the free MacSign software that came with the plotter and drop in files straight from Illustrator.
I would recommend getting a plotter as large as your budget and available space allows, you’ll never look back.

running a Grapthec CE5000 from Illustrator, works very well and smooth handling.

I also run a Mimaki CJV30 print/cut machine with FineCut Illustrator plugin.

I find the graphtec plugin much more handy to work with and time saving than the Mimaki’s one.
