  • How would you go about it?

Posted by Simon Polakof on 11 January 2009 at 17:54

I was asked by a customer to place two big sing on their roof. The roof has easy access so the job can be done without any troubles. The signs are 7000x1700mm and 2400x1700mm. The customer wants the sign to last so I’m not sure if I should do it as a banner or instead with aluminum sheets.
    How would you do it?
I pasted some pictures so that you can see what I mean.

Ps. I wanted to past the thread under GENERAL SIGN TOPICS, but couldn’t paste any pictures there.

when you say a banner how were you thinking attaching it i.e flex face and will the customer let you have joins in it as the method i would recommend is aluminum composite.

I don’t think he’d have any trouble with the joints, and at first I though of using spiritflex system. But as you also pointed out aluminum composite would be the best idea. The problem would be to fins some one who’d deliver in such big frames, the supplier we use now doesn’t have plates over 1450 mm width. By the way would you use straight aluminum plates or would you use the ones that are bend on all four sides (don’t know what they are called in English)?

Sorry do you mean you cant find a supplier who supplies bigger sheets or do you mean a panatrim frame.

At the moment I don’t have a supplier for such aluminum plates, but I’m sure that I’ll find one by the end of next week. I was more interested in knowing if you would prefer to use flat aluminum plates or aluminum plates that have about 25mm of plates bend inwards on all four sides of the plate, giving the plate more stability(you then mount them using ali angle).

you mean trays, Blackburns Metals in the UK supply 2mtr x 4mtr sheets but not much use to you. At that height i would use flat panels subject to how even the walls are, bigger the sheet the better. Do you have enough access to get large sheets up.

Simon, Because you are so high up I would just screw the panels straight to the wall or if there’s the budget use a frame.

Kevin: There should be enough room for us to access the roof by the stair(their quite wide) otherwise we will have to use some ropes to pull them up.
James: Ill’ probably use screws to mount it.

Simon, I’d use the 2m wide sheets of Dibond if you can get them. I wouldn’t worry about the bent edges, 1700mm is not that wide, and dibond is very strong.

I’d laminate the small sign with an anti graffiti material though, as it looks like it may be a vandals perfect height. Might just be the area I live tho 😳
