How much would you charge for…………….?
Posted by Mike Brown on January 30, 2003 at 9:33 pm…purely as a poke in the dark…£15 each?
I’m staring at a piece of A4 paper here, imagining three lines of text and the boards cleaned and finished nice on the edges…yeah, £15 each.

it`s got to be a good £10er each. otherwise it just an`t worth the hassell. you`ve got to cut the board, cut the vinyl, weed it, tape it up and then apply it.
i quoted a chap the other day, 20 signs on correx 300mm x 100mm, told him the lowest i would go was £100 for the lot =£5 each. he told me to ring him when my prices come down.
i do a lot of window text, i charge £8 for 1 line, 600mm (1 off`s)
like its been said before,
we`re in business to make money. NOT POCKET MONEYbecky

I would be offering these at about 9 pounds + VAT each

I would probably be looking at about 8 or 9 pounds each, I take it although the text is different on each the colour is the same so you can cut and weed them altogether. You could probably work it so you cut most of them with a border so they were the right size on a single piece of vinyl, applied this to the board and then cut the board using the border lines. would save a lot of time measuring to centre the text on each board.

£10 here!
if it was one, then about £13. but £10 for them altogether! 😉
the others are right though. it can be more bother than its worth if you charge to little.. cutting and tidying is time consuming as is weeding taping and lettering..
you will always get somone undercutting you. but if your busy enough then go for somthing worth doing.. stick it in at £10
if you not so busy then do it cheaper if you want to secure it… its your call at the end of the day mate 😉 -
i try to keep my prices as high as poss. (unless its for m8`s)
i want to buy better equipment etc. u can`t do that if you are just coving costs and adding on a few £`s for your wages.

Deleted UserJanuary 31, 2003 at 8:18 amHi guys
I do a fair amount of work on pitchside adverts for football and rugby clubs. I had a call from one of the East of Scotland clubs the other day, they are proffesional outfits not your Sunday league stuff.
The conversation went kinda like this,
Would I be interested in supplying all thier boards for the next 12 months.
Well yes of course I would, how much are you paying just now?
Oh the firm we use just now are doing 16 x 2 boards with up to five colours on 5mm foam with an aluminium frame for £80.00
Well we would love to do your boards but we are not willing to do them
like that or at that price. Why not?
Well I dont agree with the size of the boards, they would be better if they were 20 x 2.5 feet, on a 20 by 2.5 you would get a better design. Better on aluminium or steel as the ball can go through the flimsy bloody foam ones, i have repaired them before. And we will be looking for at least £250 each.
Ok I will get back to you.
Anyway, he called back a few days later and they agreed.
What I am waffling on about though is the fact that some bawheed was working for nothing, some of these boards are wrapped with vinyl, five colours of text alloy frame and all for £80.00
I dont think you could make anything but turnover on them.
Its the state of the industry all over though.

…nice one Stuart…you deserve the better prices for sticking to your guns! 😉 😎

Deleted UserJanuary 31, 2003 at 5:14 pmI read the first post and before scrolling down to see any prices proffered, I did exactly the same as Mike, and within 5 seconds decided £15.
Then I scrolled down and found that you’re all cheaper then Mike or myself.
So, we’re too dear or you’re too cheap.
I’ll stick at £15 each and have a meal out on the proceeds! 😎Peter

Peter, as Phil says I dont think it is a case of you being to expensive but I will admit I might be a little to cheap but not much. A lot of it is down to location, where you are you are probably paying a lot more for rent and rates hence your prices have to be dearer to make the same money. If you were round here and stuck to £15 a board you wouldnt be having any meals as you probably wouldnt have any work !!

Funny thing, if I go to see a customer re quoting a job, I take in the ambience of their offices and the type of cars in the firms car park, then adjust the quote accordingly (well that’s the theory).
