• How much to do this?

Posted by Phill Fenton on February 11, 2003 at 9:06 pm

I was sent this today and asked to quote to supply and fit the following layout:-

It looks deceptively simple. But much of the lettering is running across panels with some of the design across compound curves where two panels are adjacent to each other.

I just wondered how much others would quote to do this as a one off?
The customer will be supplying vector artwork so it should be a case of sizing the lettering and logos to fit the van.

I thought a figure of about £400 + VAT? what would others suggest?

    Hi Phill,

I’d charge about the same, but i’d try and pursuade the customer to drop the logo a bit lower on the side panels. Just enough so that valvserv falls onto the panel and you don’t have to deal with the corners, and the aftermarket services runs below the ridge. tell them that the T & S will be lost, and would look better below

had a quick squint at it phil…

first impressions is it all needs dropped about 8 inches.. so as the main text is sittin central.. the small stuuf should land on the lower panels and the swish should be able to go in and out pretty easy on the recessed areas. the main text that crosses the panels can be slit between letters and again, folded in and out.
i would suggest you advise him of this and be clear on the only other alternative is to use vehicle wrap if he wants to keep things as they are.

i reckon the job to be worth about £300 but im not the guy in our place that prices jobs everyday, but think this sounds a keen price.. if he wants to stick as it is 7 use v-warp tell him £450 and a day to fit… im saying this as i know you havent used wrap before, this gives you plenty time & its not that hard just for this type of thing. im sure you would do it in a few hours.

Seen this a bit late as I havent checked the boards over the last couple of days. Just a couple of points Phil, how much vinyl will this use as I’m sure you are aware these long wheelbase sprinters are big vans. Also how big will the red curved shape be? You might find that it wont cut in one piece.
I’m a bit surprised at Roberts price for a one off, I would have thought £300 was more like one of my prices and I always seem to be to cheap.

yep you maybe right martin i dont think i was thinking it as a lwb merc more the mwb.. so with that in mind maybe phill is nearer the correct price.. saying that.. if he gets the guy to drop the text the 8 inches or so its not a hard job at all and well worth £350-£400.. cheers for pounting my mistake mate… one of the reasons i dont try and reply to all the quote request posts… not my main field really. 😉

Your initial post seems spot on Phill…even the price I can’t argue with (too much 😉 ).

It makes no sense for the text to site across the panels as it does and if they try to tell you it was designed that way then tell them they should get rid of the designer!…drop the whole lot a few inches as others have said and bob’s ur’ uncle 😉

Should be pretty sweet then – just a few in-and-out gulleys and away!

Don’t forget – get some up front and good luck…

    more soon

It definitely needs to be lower. I think it actually looks stupid like that and you can tell the customer it will lead to problems if fitted as per the design.

    Looks about £400 to me.
