How many different types of print media do you keep in stock?
Posted by Dan on January 23, 2021 at 1:41 pmI’m sorting my office out today and I have thrown loads away in terms of coloured vinyl’s etc and now on to the printable media.
I have a rack under my table for 610mm coloured vinyl which is nice and neat now.
I then have a wall rack for printable vinyl, take everything off it and starting again.I’m thinking:-
* Wrap film
* Wrap film lam gloss
* Wrap film lam Matt
* Standard print film
* Standard print film lam gloss
* Standard print film lam Matt
* Label film Matt (I don’t laminate this)
* Window frost
* Banner
* Pop-up material
* Perforated window filmI don’t tend to deal with lightboxes at the moment but that’s something to think about.
Do you have cheap media for builders boards etc?
Seems simple if I stick to one size and one brand/ type of film, that’s not always the case though, is it.
Then you get the offcuts etc.
Just wondered what everyone else does, what width do you tend to go for.
I have a 1600mm printer but I feel I waste money if I buy 1600mm wrap film so end up going 1370mm, don’t ask me why.Graham Scanlan replied 3 years ago 11 Members · 14 Replies -

I also have a 1600 printer but I only stock 1370 media as I feel its most cost-effective.
I don’t keep offcuts
Everyone has this same issue with not wanting to stock thousands worth of stock so I try to keep it to a minimum but it doesn’t work in reality.I have,
* monomeric
* mono matt lam
* polymeric everyday stuff
* poly lam gloss
* wrap film
* lam gloss wrap
* banner solid and mesh
* poster paper
* pop-up film
* lightbox film -
We do a wide variety of jobs, so in addition to the above, we use:-
* Clear & white self-cling
* Clear & white removable monomeric
* High tack (Arlon & MDP-H)
* Floor graphic print & lam (lots of it)
* Printable block-out vinyl
* Optically clear for windows -
* Cast Digital Vehicle Wrap & Laminate
* Polymeric Digital Vinyl & Laminate
* Monomeric Digital Vinyl – used only on Correx boards
* Banner
* Banner Mesh
* Paper
* Photoluminescent Vinyl
* Illuminated Menu Polyester
* Roll-up Stand Polyester
* Perforated Window VinylWe have others in stock but those are what we normally hold. However, I am constantly looking at ways to reduce the range we stock, and some of those listed are stocked only a few customers that have a repeat requirement. I never limit ourselves in what we can offer, but because we offer something, doesn’t mean I need to have it on the shelf. Especially when you can have almost any material we require delivered next day.

* MD3 + gloss and matt laminate.
* MD5 + gloss laminate.
* MD7 Metamark for cut vinyl.
* Metamark Roll Up.
* Metamark Perforated.
* Metamarak Banner.
* Arlon SLX. -

Do you laminate correx boards? asking for a friend lol, personally I don’t bother but sure does make it easier to apply.
I never do mesh banners, am I missing out on a market here. What do you use them for?
Paper? What kind of paper is that and what do you use it for?

Hi Dan
No, we do not laminate correx signs.
Although I know correx stands the test of time much longer than a few months. I term them as purely short-term promotional type signs of 3-6+ months.Still what I class as an advertising promotional board, If the sign has to last longer I would move to a composite “hoarding” board for a sign of about a year+ and price accordingly. Here i would also offer a price option for protecting the print to increase the signs life.
I am reluctant to use a hoarding board at all, but i use it as an alternative to a foamex signboard such as foamalux etc.However, I don’t use a “lite” version of a composite. I use branded 3mm composites like Dibond, Skybond, Rynabond and those come standard with a laminate protecting the prints.
Banner Mesh is another I don’t like to stock but we have several scaffolding companies that require them for legality over health and safety. by that i mean they want banners on their scaffold towers and a solid banner would pull the tower over like a sail in the wind. so they stipulate mesh because it is perforated.
Paper depends, but its always handy to have some blue-back paper. which most suppliers stock. it’s cheap and good for promotional posters and the like.

I cannot add to what’s already been listed, but it is really interesting to see what others stock and use.

This is a really interesting post. Especially as I am trying to reduce the material range i hold.
Can I ask what is your main business activity?
is it wrapping or vans and general signs or print house or all even?I am a general sign maker and printer and this gives me an idea of things i may hold and shouldnt be. 🤔

Our current stock list:
Monomeric
* Polymeric + Matt & Gloss Lam
* SLX + Gloss Lam
* High Tack Vinyl
* So Flat
* 440gsm Banner
* Mesh Banner
* Self Adhesive Wall Paper
* Printable Brushed Aluminium
* Gloss White Static Cling* These rarely get used, and likely won’t be replaced. I can’t remember the last roller banner I printed. Similarly with PVC banners, unless it’s a decent quantity or size, I’m not really fussed and you can buy it in easily enough.
Most of the others are just leftovers from jobs. Worth keeping, and generally the original job has covered the cost of the roll.

We’ve just dropped holding ‘standard’ Monomeric and holding Polymeric with gloss and matt lam only instead, due to a very nice price drop deal.
* Banner
* Mesh Banner
* Wallpaper media
* Polypro ‘cheap’ poster
* Pull up 300 & 500micron
* High Tack 100micron Matt & Gloss finish
* Lightbox film & poster- This reply was modified 3 years ago by Colin Crabb.
