    Hello everyone
    I’ve been asked to do a lighted sign job. The frame is already up there and Lights and everything. They just need the plastic itself replaced with there name on it. what type of matriel is used for long term use. Plexiglass? Vinyl? or what. Is it painted? it’s a 4’x16′ sign. I need help fast. email me at mod-edit please with your infomation.

    You’re basically looking for some kind of opal (translucent) Perspex. There are many brands/equivalent of Perspex. Plexiglas being one. But must be translucent for a light box. After that you would just apply your vinyl. Again you are looking for a translucent vinyl, but you can easily get away with normal vinyls if the colours aren’t to dark. Stick some small squares of vinyl on an off cut of Perspex and hold to light. This will show you how it will look illuminated.

    Opal acrylic is the standard material for this type of project.
    The material can be specified in various grades of opacity, the ideal for this being 50% – 55%.

    This size is quite large, so you may have to specify 1/4″ thickness for rigidity.

    If its an internal sign, no problem, if its an external sign, then expansion needs to be considered.
