Graphtec Cutter Service Required
Hi… I am thinking that it may be about time to have my Graphtec cutter serviced. Is there someone that can be recommended to do this in the Glasgow area ?

Hi Robert. Is there anything wrong with it? These things tend to go on for years with only minimal servicing required. If you genuinely need an engineer I can help but if it’s just a service, you could probably do it yourself and save a few quid.

Hi Stafford…. There is nothing wrong with it no. I just assumed that like cars etc that they had to be serviced to keep them running smoothly. So if i can do it then all the better. Is there a certain procedure for carrying out a service on your own ?

All I would do on a service is to clean the rail up and then pick out any bits of dirt or vinyl that have stuck to the bearings that run along the rail (see picture). Clean the pinch rollers (I use IPA or printer head cleaning solution) or replace them if you’re itching to spend money on it. Maybe replace the cutting strip if it’s looking a bit tatty.
Did you know that Graphtec now do a dual use cutting strip that you can use for kiss and die cutting at the same time? They’re pretty reasonably priced too if I remember correctly. Tom at Graphtec fitted one to our 8600-160 show machine at Sign UK just gone and it’s really good.

Yeah, it works really well. Or at least it does on the FC8600. I’ve been a Mimaki CG-FX and Finecut man all these years but the Graphtec solution is really good.

Ok you have me curious now, how do i know / go about trying it on my Fc7000 ?

I’ll have to check as this is an older model. I’ve only recently become a dealer so I’ve only really used the 8600 and 6000. Leave it with me…

OK. I’m going by my 8600 but essentially if any Graphtec has the option for ‘Cut Line Pattern’ in page 2 of the condition menu, you can install the Soft Landing Pattern (cutting strip) and then kiss and die cut from the same blade. I can’t see if the 7000 has that option as I don’t have one here but check it out, you might be lucky.
If not, I can always sell you an 8600 😆 😆 😆

LOL Thanks Stafford…. I will check it out when i get home tonight. So is the soft landing strip the new one that they tested on your machine that you mentioned ??
And no i am not currently on the market for a new cutter just yet…. Keeping my eye out for a printer.

Yes, it is. The part number will be SLP-xxx where xxx is the width of you cutter. Definitely check that you have that option in your control panel before ordering though.
Out of interest, what printer are you looking for? New or used? We have both at the moment.

It looks like it can be done on the 7000 but it’s a bit fiddly as you have to make the perforations in the artwork. The 8600 does it internally but as long as you’re handing in Illustrator or Corel then you could be onto a winner.
We’ve got used Mimaki, Roland and Mutoh in stock at the moment, taking up space. Let us know if you’re interested.

Jeez That’s above my budget at the mo. I think I will be looking to start on a printer which can do internal posters/ canvasses etc before going to solvent. So prob looking for something along they lines first.

Ah right. Not something we deal with I’m afraid. I’ll let you know if I hear of anything though.
In the meantime, check the Graphtec out and hopefully that will end up being a result for you.
