Getting the most from your ink…
Posted by Matt Roberts on July 25, 2019 at 11:07 amHi All,
I use Eco Sol Max 3 cartridges from a 3rd party and getting tired of having to replace them when clearly there’s more ink left in the bag… Obviously I can recycle them for a whopping £3 or whatever I get, but wondering if there’s a clever trick to maximise the remaining ink.
Thanks guys,
Matt

We run eco sol max 3, non 3rd party, and when it clicks and printer stops it is 100% out of ink. Not a drop left.

On the eco sol max 2 inks, when we run a Roland, we used to shave a couple of mm off the tab on the cartridge that indicated to the machine it was empty.
Although we only ever did this when it was necessary, ie: urgent job and the ink’s not arrived.
I wouldn’t make a habit of doing it regularly as there’s always the chance of running it completely dry.

Once you go bulk it’s a zero waste affair…except for the heartbreaking waste ink bottle!

Inks are filled above their contents (eg more than 440ml) so that the cartridge doesn’t run to 0% and create air in the system! I thought that was common knowledge!

One more for the bulk system. Some people would say that signmakers are tight, i prefer to say I don’t like waste. I’ve been known to stand an empty bottle upside down resting on the tank for 24 hrs to make sure I get all of it out.
Reckon I can save a few quid if i put our empty toothpaste tubes through the laminator as well -
Did you know that black is made up of 100% Cyan, Magenta and Yellow? This is why the ink in the waste bottle looks black. Consequently I never bother to buy black ink, I simply use the ink from the waste bottle instead which leads to a further 25% reduction in my ink costs. 😉

Hi Gents,
Many thanks for all the helpful replies to what I’m sure is a pretty stupid question!
I’ve been meaning to look into a different ink system which was once recommended to me by a friend, so maybe time’s come for me to pull my finger out and actually make a switch.
