  • Foison via USB & Windows 7 – help needed setting up, please?

We have a Foison 24 (don’t laugh – it’s used on small signage & has been trouble free for 2 years)
We have moved this to another office & are trying to connect it to a laptop running windows 7 & flexi 10. No serial port on laptop & Windows dosen’t recognise a new device so won’t load the Foison.
Can’t find a Foison USB driver for windows 7 anywhere & the one on the set up disc received with the Foison is for XP.
Anyone got any ideas? (apart from changing the cutter)

Two types of chipsets used in serial to usb converters, progressive & FTDI which chipset does the converter you have bought use??
You need an FTDI chipset, most of the connection problems with plotters are caused by the other type.
Once you have the right converter set it up as a virtual serial port & then treat setting up the plotter as you would if the laptop DID have a serial port.,

Thanks for the reply but we aren’t using a converter just a direct USB link from the laptop to the cutter.
The cutter was attached to a PC running XP. We want to attach it to a unit running Win 7, so assume it’s just a Win 7 USB Driver for the Foison that we need.
Hadn’t thought of a USB / Serial converter so prhaps that’s an alterative we could investigate bearing in mind your comments.

You mentioned that the laptop had no serial port in your first post so I assumed that was how you had it connected to the PC, found this on another site

    cracked it!
I decided to think outside of box and installed it through Windows 7 manually.
[Start] [Control Panel] [Hardware & Sound] [Add A Device] Then follow on screen instructions for adding device making sure that device is turned on and connected to PC
I know what you mean about XP & Windows 7. I had to replace a perfectly good Canon Scanner which would not work under Windows 7.

& this seems to be a download for the driver, says it is compatible with windows 7 both 32 & 64 bit versions

Has anyone else got an up to date Windows driver for the Foison c24?

We switched to Windows 7 64bit, and our driver disk doesn’t include a 64bit driver (2007)

Tried the Foison website, but I think it’s no longer live.
