  • Exporting vehicle library from Signlab to illustrator

Posted by Daniel Evans on July 4, 2016 at 7:52 am

    Hey guys

I got an a old version of signlab but I’m use to illustrator and can’t really get on with it at the moment, I’m still learning it but when I’m in a rush, I go back to illustrator.

In signlab I use full scale vehicle library images but illustrator can’t handle them, so how do i divide the file by 2000% so I can open it in illustrator, edit and cut with my graphtec plugin?

    Thanks

Check there isn’t another set of files you can use. Most libraries contain files at actual size as well as at 20% to allow illustrator users to open them. (i.e .ai files instead of .eps)

What library are you using. Impact give you AI files that open fine at 20%

    Thanks for replying.

I’ve already designed the vehicle to full scale in signlab, I can open up a scaled down version in illustrator and reduce the graphics manually to fit it but surely there must be a way of reducing a signlab file by 2000% so I can save it and import it to illustrator? Well I hoped there was lol.

Saw this on another site, might be worth trying.

This is very simple to do:

    Open the Transform palette
    Lock the width and height
In the W: input add "/10" (after the current value in the box in mm/inches/etc).
This will divide the value by 10 and will therefore downscale everything to 10% of its original size.

    Thanks Ewan

I’ll give that a go and let you know how I get on.

    Thanks

Just re-reading this, do you mean in illustrator? I need to do it in signlab as illustrator won’t even open the file as it falls off the document.

    Thanks again.

I’ve never used signlab but there must be a resize tool, even my old copy of Inspire had an option to resize either by percentage or by typing in a value, have you checked all the drop down options looking for either a scale or resize option

    Select everything.
    Click on Layout/Size Move/Size.
Make sure the lock is locked for proportional scaling
Enter your percent scale down or use the up down arrow keys.
