  • Cut lines within script font using illustrator

Posted by Susan Rowe on August 7, 2019 at 10:51 am

Hello, trying to figure out how I can cut a script font without the breaks between letters. Even when I convert to outline, they are there. I understand in cutstudio and even silhouette software, there is a "weld" command that takes care of this, but can’t seem to find this function in AI 2018. None of the path functions can do this. I can’t even use cutstudio as the plug in downloaded from adobe’s site says Damaged when installing. Any advice?

As you say – it’s the weld function that will fix this. If you can’t find it in your current software post the file up here and someone will weld it for you.

Pathfinder tool, then Unite under Shape Modes

Assuming the problems like the one in my image, the bottom one’s the ‘fixed’ one

You’ll need to convert the font to outlines before you can unite the paths.

If you’re using Cutting Master there’s an option to AutoWeld in there too, but personally we always unite/weld in Illustrator using the pathfinder tools.

Aww, it was there all along. Thanks so much everyone. Illustrator does so much I suupose it takes a long time to become a master [emoji16][emoji106]

This is a life saver, the way I use to do this took more than 5 mins to do[emoji24] I use to print screen it then convert it into a shape. There’s so much to learn with illustrator
