corel crashing on trace work

Hi Hugh,

Yea if there is a power cut or it crashes then auto backup kicks in. Sometimes I find files from months ago suddenly want to pop up. Slows it right down.

Make the image smaller and try tracing that way, then blow it up to full size. Can sometimes help to only have that open. Not sure if I can leave my email address here but if you are stuggling send it to info@creativesignandprint.co.uk and I’ll fire it back.

Thanks.. Yes, I get that all the time, the auto-back-up is never ever what you were just working on, lord knows why that it!

I’ve tried all the trick to get it to trace but to no avail, think I’ll order more ram and see if that helps. Have had a couple of messages pop up that say ‘out of memory’ so it’s a reasonable bet.

I’ve done it on the laptop now but long term, it’s impractical!

It’s easy enough to check how much ram you have installed, if it’s not working it won’t show as being installed. At start up ram is generally checked but not all errors show up. Once started then control panel, system & security, system will tell you how much ram is installed.
Out of memory errors are generally to do with Hard disk space rather than RAM, how full is your hard drive? Many programs like corel use what is known as a scratch disk, this is a percentage of free disk space available on normally the C drive, as the hard drive fills up the available free disk space reduces to a point where you start to get errors.
Some programs allow you to increase the default percentage but I don’t know if corel does 😆

Just checked
C drive (2x 500gb in mirror raid config) – 156gb remains
D drive (500gb spare back-up) 310gb remains
External (1TB back-up drive) 710gb remains

I’m guessing that they all have more than enough for it to play with. though it’s been a long time since I ever defragged the driver.. would probably take a week!

I find mine crashes if I try to trace an image with a resolution over 72, so now I make sure I change it to that before tracing and all seems ok.

Hi Karen,
yes, had similar fixes in the past but recentyl getting near impossible on certain images!
